Hello,

I m very sorry to hijack this post but I cann'ot find another way to upload my picture for a fish ID.
When i try to start a new topic i do not have the browse option as i do with the reply option.

A friends tank cracked and he asked if i could take some fish he gave me this 6" loach

Just wondering what kind it is and how big will it grow.

looks like a Chinese algae eater, to me. the checker pattern gives it away!!!!!! and a very nice example too, and a good pic! they get big and often get accused of being aggressive when they get older, and this one looks older. but id like a second opinion.

as for the photos. to post, pic anywhere accept here, you need to get yourself a Imageshack or Photobucket hosting account. the are both free. then you upload you picture copy the IMG link and paste it in your post.

Is there a chance that it will be aggressive and start attaching itself to the slime coat of the other fish?

don't know about the slime coat but they are renowned for being agressive, what size tank do you have and what are it's tankmates

here,s my c.a.e and i dont have too many probs with him. he,s about 3" at the moment so i suppose he may get ugly with the other fish when he is full grown!! what size is your fish and do you get any probs with him?
nath1 :good:

He is over 6" long and about 2" in girth I have had him for a couple of months now. He does not seem to bother the others, they kinda dart out his way when he moves about. He loves cucumber.

Great pic by the way of your c.a.e

your CAE is the size of agressive-ness dude  when they're the size of that other guys fish, they aren't too aggressive. i doubt it would attach itself to any of your other fish because they are probably biggest than it. they don't chase fish at their fastest but if they get startled, they shoot off as though nothing was there  they are nice fish tho and yours has nice patterns on it :D x

EDIT: your fish also looks/sounds female :D

Yes I have heard that they will take the slime off the sides of fish. They are also nown to take the eyes out of corys!!! And yes that means they will be aggresive.

But other than that they are pretty cool fish. :D

But you really should rehome him.

hey! that must be why my albino cory had an eye missing! an adult CAE would probably suit being in a tank with large cichlids. thats where my lfs guy but mine when i gave him away. i think anyway. correct me if im wrong here! x :D
