I have an empty 2.5 gallon tank. What kind of fish would be best for it, other than a betta.
Preferably, if there were more than one fish i'd like them to kind of swim together.
If it were just one fish it would be great if the acknowledged that I existed.

For 2.5 gallons, a betta is it unless you want shrimp as already suggested.

no fish, onlu shrimps. even bettas dont belong in there.
Bettas are fine in a 2.5 gallon tank. More space is better but they are certainly kept in smaller spaces with good results. I would imagine the average size tank/bowl that bettas are kept in is less than a gallon as most pet store employees will tell people they really don't need much room and that a small bowl is fine. Just a guess though.

deffinetley a betta they are kept in cups in shops this is not advised though!!! most betta fanatics keep there bettas in 1g bowls so 2.5 is more than enoguh and as bettas do not need a filter they are perfect...
Good Luck.

i wouldnt put any fish in a tank without a filter. They may be able to survive without one, but it's not the best idea not to have one in there!
