Hi all. Been to LFS to start researching what I would like in the tank.

Would these been OK in 8 UK / 9.25 US Gallons PH7.5?

6 x Sunset Platy
1 x Tuxedo Guppy
1 x Rainbow Shark

Please say yes!!!!

Thanks

you'd be ok with the guppy but most people reccomend atleast 10gallons for platies. Rainbow sharks need more like 60 gallons than 8 unfortunately

Last time I listen to the bloke at the LFS then.... Seems all the fish I like aint gonna fit in this tank - Perhaps time to re-evaluate taking this hobby up during 2008!!!

well put it this way, the rainbow shark will reach around 6-8" long....... hold up a ruler or tape measure against your tank with that size of fish....... it'll become immediately apparent that this is not a suitable sized tank for it.

look at fish around 2" long max for this tank, there's a pinnde topic in the new to the hobby section with recommendations of fish for a 10 gal tank which may give you some inspiration, also read the link in my sig 'guide to stocking lists' which will give you some pointers on working on suitable lists of fish by yourself.

really recommendations are hard because so much comes down to personal preference, if you go to the lfs and write down the names of all the small fish that you like, post them back here and we'll start drawing up a list form the ones you like. :good:

OMG - The sticker on the tank at the LFS said 8 - 10 CENTIMETRES!!!!!

It's so difficult at the LFS especially when they have about 100 fish in a 5 Gallon tank.... Know the fish have to grow but never seem to be any adults in there to gauge how much!

I think I have made my mind up now anyway - The goldfish are going in this tank once the cycling has finished and I will wait till after crimbo and get myself a nice sized tank for the kind of tropicals I would really like to keep.

Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Top Chip,

Good to see you are doing your research rather than just jumping in. Respect!

Unfortunately, your goldfish probably aren't suitable for an 8 gallon tank either. Common Goldfish can grow up to around 12" long, with fancy varieties not far behind at around 8".

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you need to reconsider.

The pinned topic MW suggested is a good place to start.

Cheers :good:

BTT

even if it was 10 centimetres id still say that was too big

agreed, sadly the common goldie is one of the most mis understood and mis treated animals on this planet! they need a tank around 30/40 gallons, best place for them by a mile is a pond! :/

i hav a 10 gallon with 6 platys and 2 amano shrimp
i want to add some more shrimp and i hav real plants and it has been fine with weekly water changes

i would say thats way to small for your fish i have the same tank i only use it for bringing up my bristlenose fry plus if you have platys in there they will breed like crazy and making more over crowded problems do some research on tetras and similar size fish that lay eggs dont go for live beares in such a small tank like guppys sword tails and platys ect try and get them back to the lfs and start again sorry maty plus sure it is a 32 not 35 liter

sorry thoght you bought them whoops :good:

a tank of maybe 6 male endlers or some brigitte rasbora would be ok :)
also you could add some bogwood and java moss and have some cherry shrimp

i would suggest, some dwarf corries (6) maybe , small rasboras (6) and maybe 2-4 amanos. thats about it. i have a 38l tank, that i use for shimp, except for i ##### poisoned every last one of them last night     i also use it to raise any fry i get.

whats wrong with livebearers, i know there fairly active, i would only recomend endlers and guppys though. as long as there the same sex your ok
