hey

my rosy barb is really fat and isn't looking very well, i cant be overfeeding him because he isn't eating as much as usual.

does any one know what might be wrong with him??

♂ Sounds like dropsy. I did a search and it said dropsy is more of a symptom than an actual disease. It is related to a bacterial infection, and poor water conditions are often the cause. There are probably not any commercial products which will help.
I would start doing daily 10-15% partial water changes, and add a little bit of aquarium salt. Even with freshwater fish, aquarium salt is supposed to help keep fish a bit healthier.

Yes the aquarium salt will help greatly because its not just an external treatment. They say that dropsy is a liver disorder or something i think??? Correct me if im wrong

My red fin tetra has had a huge belly for over 6 months now... At first I thought she was pregnant but it wasn't going away

you cant just say its dropsy without any other symptoms than 'a big belly'

have u thought it might realy be a female thats carrying eggs?

if it is dropsy then it should go 'pineconed' all its scales sticking out... i wouldnt treat with anythin untill ur sure.

also have u got cories? because adding aquarium salt can halm them as they are 'scaless' fish...

i'd use a dropsy treatment just to be safe. can't hurt them.

hmm weird.i have a mollie tank and a cory with salt and hes fine.happy as a clam.always looking for some thing to eat.hes also chased away the evil mollies from his shrimp pellet

i wont say its dropsy just like Nina777 said unleas there are more symptoms. i had a guppy that i though had dropsy because her tail scales were all messed up, took her out and put her in a buttercontainer because i had no other avaliable tanks for her, she died and then i my brother said that when he was cleaning the tanks ( i have no idea how 2 use that stupid syphon thing) that the stacking stones fell on her tail and she got it all messeed up from that.

so...wait for more symptoms before u take him out and put him down, if thats what ur going 2 do, because there arent many things that work 4 dropsy.
