Fish "expert" Told Me Platy Was Male

Oh far, far less than that. They're 2 cents a pop now, then 0.5 cents a pop, then 0.05 cents a pop........

Platies are like pringles, once the pop, you can't make them stop.
I can second that!! lol

Have to agree she does look like something's outside that should be inside. Hopefully she's just ready to pop and you'll be making a birth announcement soon, redskygrave!

So yesterday she didn't eat, and today she isn't eating also. Also, if it is a fry that is stuck, then it has moved some... Hopefully today is the day!

Well that's a great indicator that she's ready to drop. Good luck, I hope the concerns turn out to be nothing for you :)

Keep us posted :)

So we have been watching her all day, and she has lost a lot of color and the fry that is stuck has moved slightly... But not enough for her to push it the rest of the way... We think it might be sideways...

Yeah, another photo may help :)

If there really is one stuck though, there's not much that you can do. Just keep your water conditions perfect and have the temperature at around 25 degrees for her comfort. Even when there isn't fry stuck, some females can die after birth due to the stress but it's more likely here, unfortunately.

I did, however hear about some lad who had a live bearer that died giving birth which was still fat when she died. He took her out, squeezed her a littler and was amazed to find live fry come out of her! Not ideal, I know but definitely amazing.

Anyway, I hope it doesn't come to you having to consider doing that and all ends up turning out okay :)

Sorry for the bad photo. She wont stop swimming... She is swimming faster now, still won't eat. We removed her from the bathroom out to the dinning room so we could just watch her.

It looks like it has had a prolapse It’s not looking good,
if it as got bigger or Worse since you  got it  the fish may not recover / survive long

Ooh, that's good news I hope!

It really does look painful now though after initially not being so noticeable. It looks to be sticking out a little more too...

Hopefully it was almost out when you took the photo and it is now, of if not at least closer to being so!

She just keeps pushing it out.... Still no fry swimming around but we do see a fry in there with what ever that is she is pushing out.

So I've just been doing a bit of research and the different methods vary from netting the fish (which it looks like you've already done) to make her dart around a little bit and potentially free the blocked fry to trying to pull it out with tweezers! (which I obviously don't recommend)

The other suggestions were mainly what I mentioned before, which was gently squeezing the fish - but I don't recommend that either. Maybe you could try and do the same as the lad that I read about though if she does end up dying as there may be some live fry inside. Hopefully you won't have to do that though!

Just hang on in there for now! :/

We left awhile ago. Just to go do some stuff. Came back and she was dead. We didnt try to cut her open, figuring any fry that came from her most likely would be deformed. :( She will live on in our heart. R.I.P Big Blue.

Aw, that's sad to hear!

I definitely wouldn't have tried cutting her open either, although I would have been tempted to give her a gentle squeeze.

Good luck in finding some more females!

Sorry. I had a guppy with prolapse once. It went back in but she still ended up dieing. It is sad, but in some ways this is better for her as she would have been prone to infection if it had gone back in and re-occurrence any time she would give birth.
