Fish Dying Please Help Or Advise

ok big breath

64 litre tank running 4- 5 months

amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10-20
ph 7.8

twice weekly water changes ,now daily.

inhabitants are now
4 male guppies
5 glowlight tetras
5 neon tetras
3 otos
2 peppered corydoras

i previously lost 3 different types of shrimp 3 days on the trot,after adding new plant presumed either plant was to blame or 2 golden barbs who are now rehomed in a quarantine tank with my neighbour .......however ..... things seem to be worse than i thought .....
my gorgeous guppies have started dying and i dont no why.

observations with ill fish ...
1stly i noticed one flicking on the floor but hes still alive ,only 1 other has done this...
2ndly they seem to be loosing colour dirty brown faces ... yet going seethrough/grey in their bodies and tail fins,
3rdly their fins/tails are becoming shredded with look like long white stands at end of tails that are there one day and gone another,
4thly their top fins and other fins become clamped looking,
5thly they stay upright in the tank ... tail pointing downwards,
6thly they keep falling to the bottom of tank lying flat for ages ,then rising and falling ,
7thly they die.

observations in tank ...
1 all readings are always they same no amonia ,no nitrite,ph same,nitrate ,
2 brown algae bloom at times..
3 little white stringy stuff appears on glass or rocks in tank ...looks like the dandelion puffs you blow as kids ... soz no imagination ..

please can someone advise i dont no what to do ,

i am doing daily water changes ,

ive cleaned the filter as out put was going a bit slow,full of sludge

i have removed carbon filter as of couple of days ago..so can add meds

i have melafix which id added but i have also purchased protozine but dont no what to use or how .

and to make things worse my other tank 60 litre has got a guppy in whos displaying some of the same symptoms yet fish never mixed only ever used same gravel cleaner .

please please help im frantic im gonna loose all my pretty boys .....

erm, well i have no ideawhat it could be!? but maybe if you try emailing one of the tff members if you get no further replies then maybe they can help quicker, if you are loosing fish you will need to act fast. im not sure you should put any more medication in when you dont know what you are diagnosing x

Symptoms sound both bacterial and parasites. The Melafix will not cure this. I would treat for both but am not familiar with medications in the UK. Protozin is for whitespot and fungus so I don't think that is what you need. Maracyn-2 by Mardel is a good antibiotic for bacterial diseases.

ive been using protozin and havent lost any more for few days but very confused on what im treating for or what to treat with 2 different lfs say different things sooo confused.

so if theres anybody from the uk out there please can you advise me on uk treatments /products .

Flicking as in scratching himself along the gravel as if he is "itchy" ?

General loss in color or are the fins disappearing in a sense ?

Sounds parasite or fungus. Can you get us some pics ?

Brown algae is harmless and common in new tanks

Sounds parasite. Are you able to get Mardel Coppersafe or Maracide and Maracyn-2 by Mardel ? This will treat it unless it is fungal or Columnaris. A combination of Maracyn-2 and Coppersafe is a good combo if you can get it.

Protozin should work. Follow exact instructions on the package. After that I would use carbon to remove the med and then remove it and use an anti-bacterial such as Maracyn-2.

when you clean your tank how do you do it?? ie: how much water are you taking out? also how are you cleaning your filter? are you rinsing it in old tank water?? apologies if you are aware how to do this but im just trying to find out if there could be anything else contributing to your fishes poor health.

as for you shrimp dying after you added a plant, lots of aquarium shops use snail killer on their plants which is also toxic to invertebrates like your shrimp so you must always rinse rinse rinse new plants before adding them.im just wondering if the brown algae that you say is always there might be because you have been changing too much water too often you can get an outbreak of this if the bacteria in your tank is unbalanced(water changing before your fish got sick)
to me the fish sound like they have bacterial infections a good uk bacterial treatment is myxazin made by the same mob that make protozin. bacterial infections often cause the shredded fins which you are describing and a lot of the other symptoms your fish are displaying. im not sure about the white strands of stuff in your tank though. i know the advice you are getting seems to be different but personally i would use myxazin & melafix, myxazin is for fin rot,sores and other bacterial infections. if you cant get to your lfs theres a lot of suppliers on ebay that will send to you quickly. maracyn2 is an antibiotic treatment that is also good you cant buy it here in the uk but again you can get it from usa suppliers on ebay, but it will take a week or so to arrive which might be too long for your poor fish. but might be worth getting just in case ( it doesnt work out very cheap with the postage though)

yes .... like its got a big itch its flicking its body off the floor ,rocks etc

yes ....body on a bright yellow guppy is now a creamy seethrough colour .........while another yellow guppies tail has gone clear in one part

yes ....a white patch appeared in the body on a blue guppy as well as in its tail.

yes ....tails are loosing colour and looking greyish ...

yes ....end tails are torn some bits off ends are missing some are ripped..

ok trying to get decent pics ...

i clean out tank with gravel vac i was doing 30% weekly and then told also needed to do 50 % every 2 weeks ,but when fish started dying i was changing 30-40 each day after a fish died ...

clean filter as told via its booklet in bucket of tank water.it says do every 4-6 weeks.

no worries about appologies id rather find out i was doing something wrong and get my fishes back to peak health so good to cover old ground x

if bacterial infections treatment is myxazin use myxazin & melafix, . .............do i use both together ?

and do i also use maracyn2 .

ive dosed with protozine day 1,2,3, left day 4,5 says dose again day 6 which is tommorow .

what should i do after that .? ...... do i change meds or re start ?

hi as i finnished protozine meds day 1,2,3 and 6 . ....... what do i do now?

a) do i add back carbon filter then take it back out again

b) do i re-start protozine for 2nd dose .............and how long do i wait before re dosing ?

c) do i add different type of meds like melafix and myaxine after doing carbon filter ?

d) can both meds be dosed together ?

hope im on right track ...

lost another fish this time a neon tetra, red guppy been having constant stringy white poo for three days non stop,lots of flicking still.

tank2 a cory catfish is now skinny looks awful ,

lfs says poss tb , sold myxazin .

what more should i do ?
