Hi all,

One of my Danios has disappeared!

It was noticed when I got in from work this evening, but I didn't actually count them this morning so it has been since around 11pm last night.

I have checked all around the tank, taken out my wood and checked everywhere they could possibly hide. Have checked the floor below the tank and nothing! I'm at a loss!

There are 2 possibilities that I can see:

1) The fish has swan down UGF tube and is now swimming around under the gravel, but I think this is HIGHLY unlikey!

2) It's died and the other fish have eaten it

Do Danios eat each other?? I did have 5 and now have 4. I don't have any other fish in there

Regards

Adam

Could of died and they have eaten him, i've lost fish and never found them, sorry.

I think being eaten is the most likely thing thats happened. Its happened a couple of times with me.... a couple of guppies died but i think my shrimp ate them :(

have you got a juwel tank - i had the same problem - and found dead fish in the filter

ive had fish go missing before, mainly danios,i think my corys eat them unfortunately when they died.any ways sorry for the loss r.i.p little man.

I have had fish just vanish, and also one of my snails vanished into thin air, and he was huge. Not even a shell was left. He couldn't have climbed out, the top is covered. I have no idea what became of him.

hi mate do you have any plecs in the tank because i had two phantom tetras dissapear.....and then found the plec munching on my cory.?

i lost my swordtail once when i was cleaning the tank, i thought ive sucked her up or summat, but i found her trapped behind the jewel filter.
if people have jewel filter be careful when cleaning sponges because the filter casing can move forward and fish can get trapped behind it.

My best guess is the other fish ate it. I've had a number of fish disappear over the years...but generally for other reasons.
One in particular was an Albino Clarias. He got out of the tank at least weekly. I found him several times barely alive several feet from the tank. The last time he wasn't quite so lucky. I never did understand why he wanted out of his home....there were only a couple or so mated pairs of anglefish in that tank most of the time as I recall ...maybe a few guppies to provide some live food for the angels. The only time he was moved to another tank was when the angels were getting ready to breed. I have no idea how he managed to find the small opening in the hood but he did.

I also kept swordtails & guppies outside in the kid's small swimming pool they'd outgrown. Fish kept disappearing & I couldn't figure out what was going...checked the filter...none in there. I finally caught the culprit....a frog who had been hiding under some plants! After that I kept closer tabs on the pool & had to catch & release him several times. Frogs just don't take hints very well.

One time I quarantined a fish that I can't remember the name of but thought he was killing guppies in another tank....turned out to be a damsel or dragon fly larva....probably came in on the plants from the kid's pool. It was a nasty critter for sure.....I lost a few fish before he was found.

The more recent disappearances were from my back yard ponds....I first kept a few goldfish ....all but one disappeared. Then I tried rosy barbs & had better luck. We have inconsiderate neighbors who allow their cats to roam all over. I've chased at least 6 of them from near the ponds but the biggest pests are the raccoons.
Anyway, I've given up trying to keep fish in the ponds since dear hubby changed to an external filtration system....every barb died or disappeared when he did this....something is terribly wrong in there now....nothing grows....not even algae!

Did you check the suction area around your filter? it could be stucked in there... :/

Another thought came into my mind is that maybe it jumped out of the tank? did you look around places near to your fish tank?

sorry for that...

(grr, I should have looked more closely since this post was created on NOV 1, 2005, that was 27 days ago's question)
