Hi All,

I have lost two fish in two days :byebye:

Yesterday I lost my black Molly :rip: , this one I kind of expected - She had a bad case of fungus & Finrot for a few months now, and treatment was not working. But the supprise was that I found my Silver dollar lying upside down (but breathing) in one of my plants, I took it out and euthanased it tonight :rip: , it' seemed to have some fin rot, but a minor case. I started using a new treatment on sunday to treat the fungus and finrot (Ichcide) as recomended by my lfs as protozin was not working too well. I have so far done two treatments.

Anyway, I did a 40% water change just now, in case there was something in the water. I added some stress coat to the water and I was wondering if I should stop treatment with the new medicine, and if it would be ok to add some Melafix as it's atibacterial.

Anyway any help would be appreciated
Thanks

What size tank is this then... Are the fish listed in your sig the fish that are present?
With meds there is always the risk that the meds will cause deaths just like the original problem does. To dose or not to dose is really an individual question. For some tank problems I have chosen to either raise temp, add salt, drastic water changes or remove the sick fish. Some meds have worked for me and some have been a disaster - who knows what losses I would have had if I'd done nothing... For fin rot, I've lately changed my treatment to keeping the water cleaner then usuall and using melafix for the fins. The cases that I've had lately have not been too aggressive however but I really like the results that I have had with the new method.
I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted on how it is working out with you with whatever method that you choose...

Hi Alaskan,

Thanks for the reply, my tank has been pretty stable for a couple of days now, I didn't have the option of adding salt as I have corrys and I couldn't separate the fish as I dont have a quarantine tank, but thanks for the suggestions anyway. My girlfriend went out and bought me an other silver dollar and a couple of clown loaches to take away the sting of loosing my fish! I must admit, it worked!!! What i will probably do is do a couple more 40% water changes before I add the Melafix and hope for the best!

Thanks
Pete
