Hi,

I have recently purchased a brand new 240 litre (65 gallon) bow front tank. I have spent a lot of money on it and it has an external canister filtration system. At the moment I am having a little trouble in deciding what fish I would like to put in. I have read up on numerous websites with regards to aggression in certain species but am still unsure on what I can have. To make it easier I like the following fish and would like combinations of those:

Oscars
Green Terrors
Blue Acaras
Jack Dempsey's
Texas Cichlid
Clown Loach
Severum's
Firemouth Cichlid
Pleco

Which would you pair together comfortably in this size tank?

Thanks in advance.

i wouldnt pair any of those cichlids together in that tank, a bare minimum for a oscar is 55us but people think a 75us is better for a single oscar only :good:
so depends really on what you like,,,,

a single oscar is a great thing to have :good:

maybe a pair of severums and a senegal birchir would go nice, a bit of beauty and a bit of oddness :good:

or what about a pair of tbar<jade eyed> cichlids / 6 colombian tetras / a pair of bristlenose plecs :good:

google the names to find pictures if you dont know what they look like

A single texas could work depending on tank dimensions. Firemouths and blue acaras would work. 1 severum possibly, could try it with a few smaller cichlids as well. Clown loaches would eventually get too big, but I suppose you could keep them for a while in a 65g. Pleco's make a lot of mess and with already messy cichlids they aren't worth it. Oscars get too big. A single GT may work actually, but wouldn't mix with other fish, same is probably going to be true with JD's.

dunno about te firemouths with severums, i had 2 firemouths and a green severum and they gave the green sev 1 hell of a scar, he still has it to this day lol needless to say the firemouths got sold soon after.no reason why u can't have a plec in a 240ltr, plus they keep themselves to themselves and help clean your glass, if you don't want a bog plec go for bristlenoses or other small plecs.clown loaches are pretty much harmless aswell and take years to grow to full size.

Clown Loaches are an excellent fish but please bear in mind that they are capable of growing to nearly 16 inches. It's a common myth that Clown Loaches are small fish - they're not, they're just slow growing. They also like to be kept in groups of 6 or more, preferably double that, so really speaking if you want to give them a home in which they can thrive, you'd need a huge tank.

Personally I would recommend a pair of Blue Acara with 8 to 10 Corydoras and 12 or so Cardinal tetras or something.
