Fish building a fort !!

im new to cichlids but my brother has a few and in his tank theres a cave just recently one of his cichlids started building walls around the cave with pebbles my brother has knocked his wall down only to find an even bigger one the next mourning is this part of the spawning process or what ?

All of mine do that too. Not sure of the exact reason why, but it seems to keep them occupied.

do you know what kind of cichlids that your brother has? some cichlids dig what are referred to as birthing pits. they will dig a shallow pit in the substrate. this is where the spawning ritual will take place. some cichlids prefer to lay their eggs on flat surfaces or will dig the birthing pit in a cave like structure if it is a substrate bottom type.
