Hi All,

It’s the new year and I have been think about starting a few breeder tanks (one tank for adults, one for fry) However there are so many different species I like. I love fighter fish but just don’t have the space need for all the males. I have a few species I like but would like to know what you would go for ? I am not doing it for the money more for the fun but equally will need to sell some of them off to make room/ buy new stock . My I have breed guppies, Mollies before, bristlenose plecos and tetra . Anyone got any suggestions of something a little different ? Ideally with colours

Many thanks

I breed angels from time to time, but I don't know if I would recommend them. They need large tanks and don't always get along well. But they are fun to watch if you raise the fry with the parents.

You could try fish like barbs and danios, as some aren't too tricky and should sell well.

If you just want to breed to have fun doing so go with guppies. They are just about impossible to not breed. Shoot, I think the danged things are born prego! ;)

I really enjoyed breeding apistogramma cacatouides! The triple reds have beautiful colors and they're not too tricky
yes I love triple reds had them in the past do you have anything else in your tanks with them ? I only remember having them with some tetra I think ?

I really enjoy breeding fish, to the point I stopped counting at 95 species bred. Years in aquarium clubs with breeders all around offer up a recipe you can use.

Start by picking a fish you really like.

It doesn't mattrer if I like it, or anyone else here wants it. If YOU like it, you will learn how. Clearly, there are really difficult or even impossible (in the home aquarium) species out there. But do some digging on what appeals. I knew a guy who liked glowlight tetras, so he made himself a big group. It's not a hard tetra as tetras go, but it's no guppy. If you are motivated, you can probably do it.

I had them in a tank with some rasboras and a dwarf gourami, plus various invertebrates. Heavily planted 55, so didn't have any issues with the gourami, but some might

you should breed cories, I have successfully made eggs but not hatched them sadly
though they have dull colors, they are very fun fish and very peaceful

Whatever you breed, you need to be able raise some too as watching the growth to maturity story is really something. That's why it's best to avoid territorial fish where the males (usually, not always) begin the fight as soon as they know who is who. Apistos are great, but it takes a lot of space and resources to raise them.
