Hey guys! Here's my plan. I'm moving in a few weeks and when I do, I'm getting this. I've been looking for something like it for a while, and I was so excited when I found this one! It's perfect! I want to put my 1 gallon and 2.5 gallon tanks in it in my livingroom. It has 25 little cubbies in it, and I have 19 bettas... which means that I'll have room for more fish! I think it's going to look so cool, and I can't wait! What do you think?

i would be a little weary of something made out of particle board holding fish tanks...first, if it happens to get wet (obviously the lamanent will help), it will fall apart quickly... second, at only 29 lbs per shelf max load (i wonder if that is per small section of shelf or for each whole shelf lengthwise) you want to be careful with the 2.5 gallon tanks which weigh approx. 15 lbs filled

that being said, if it did work out for you i think it would look great! especially with a bunch of 1 gallon bowls

yeah, i thought about that, but then i figured it must mean 29 pounds per section, because if it was only 29 pounds per shelf, you wouldn't even be able to put books on it. it must me 29 pounds per section, right?

great................ but i cant see it holding 19 1 gallon tanks :/

The bookcase is weighing in at 137 pounds, I think it will be fine and fully support 20 someodd betta tanks with no problems. It doesn't seem to be flimsy.

Supposedly each shelf supports 28 pounds, the one gallons will be no problem weighing in at around 15 pounds a piece (with decor). The 2.5's may be pushing it.

That's cool..if it works.

I think before I put my fish in it though..I would test it first, to make sure it holds up. You have to figure if you put 29 fish tanks in that...

1 gallon of water = 8.3 lbs. plus your gravel...makes it an even 9 lbs per gallon. That's 20lbs per 2.5 gallon tank.

You could help the shelves out though..by putting 2 pieces of 2x4 in each cubby. There for giving it added strength. But I dunno how much room that would take up though....as I don't knwo how big each cubby hole is.

I think before I ordered that...I would e-mail the company and ask them what the entire weight load is for the whole thing. Because the side pieces factor in as well...they can only hold so much pressure..or they will buckle and snap.

Also, keep in mind..particle board is not as hard as wood..so the more weight you put on it..it will stretch and tear....which means if you put too much weight on it..it will rip the screws out of the holes and the shelves could fall.

Here are some that might work better for you (some of these are expensive..but worth the money imo..if you are a breeder).

I love that first unit.

I like that first one too..you could cut round holes in the back, behind each tank, to stuff the cords through..and it would look very neat and clean. You could even install those kitchen-style flourescent light bars under each shelf to make it look even better.

I over think stuff way too much :X :S :fun:

lol Kelly, you just have no idea. My "favorites" is so full it's unreal.

If I come across something I need/like, or think someone else might need/like, I save it for a later date (because inevitibly I will always wish I had if I don't lmao).

If you need something and can't find it ask me..I prolly have it saved lol. And I have them in Detailed folders, then sub folders, and then listed alphabetically for easier retrieval as well (I'm an organization nerd  ).

I spend about 6-8 hours a day (sometimes more if I get on at home) doing nothing but looking stuff up....you tend to sccumulate alot after a while :D.

I have this bookcase... it's great! I have a 2 gallon acrylic tank from marineland in one of the cubbies.... looks great! :wizard:

I have loads of Ikea Billy bookcases. Also just particle board, but they've been with me for about 10 years, been taken apart and put back together many times when I've moved - and are as solid as anything. I have hardback books 2 deep on them, floor to ceiling, so I reckon tanks would be okay.
