We have brought our first lot of fish :- . 7 Harlequins, all around 1/2 an inch. It's so nice to see fish swinning about :hyper:  .

I did not use ammonia to cycle the tank just flake, and it took 5 weeks  . I realise that the filter will not have the amount of bacteria to handle a full tank of fish, but do you think I could get a few more :/ ? I have a 126lt tank with an oversize external filter and the Harlequins only add up to 3 1/2 inches.

Just keep the ones you have now for a week or so and monitor the ammonia and nitrate, if it spikes up a bit just give it a little more time, I know your anxious to get more fish, but just take your time, that way everything will be nice n healthy

Great to hear you have some fish in that lovely tank at last :)
I stocked my 120 litre tank very slowly, added a couple of fish every 2/3 weeks and didn't get any spikes at all. Fully stocked now after about 3 months.
Good Luck

Yes, don't do what I did with my 30g and add 6 platys, 6guppies and 2 hoplos all at once!! I thought if you cycled with ammonia you could add a great load of fish but no. One nitrite spike has had me doing daily 20% water changes for 3 weeks  Only stabilized last week. Believe me, it's not worth the hassle.

Thanks, I get to anxious sometimes, just like a little kid :hyper: :kana: :hyper: ! My girlfriend pointed out that it's only 4 weeks, feels like more   !

Anyway I'll take the good advise and see what the water test is like on Friday.

Thanks again!

Ah but you can if you dosed with ammonia in large amounts and make sure that the tank is stable before adding the fish. I know, because I have done it!
