Fish All Sick Suddenly!

Got home from pub and fish, who were fine a few hours ago, are all very pale with sticky out eyes! I'm halfway through an emergency water change and a guppy just died!

Fish all at thebottom of tank.

Only fish that look normal are the dwarf gouramis and maybe the pentazona barbs.

Tetras and Rams lost all colour!

Water looks a bit cloudy (possibly from water change) - what to do quickly with no access to shops?

tank is about 35 gallon. doing water changes about once a week about 25%

the two dwarf gouramis were added two weeks ago but everything has been fine since. I did have to treat with some general medicine for wounds etc... as one of he gouramis got his head stuck in a rock and injured himself but that was a week and a half ago and there has been a waer change since.

Fish in tank:
4pentazona barb
4 neon tetras (lost one in the week and another a while back)
2 Rams
2 dwarf gourami
there was the last of a set of guppies but he died durig water change tonight.

should I treat agan with medicine - it says it treats common fish diseases - including one witha symptom of protruding eyes, which my fish, especially the Rams, seem to have.

Please help - I really love my fish!

hmmm possibly the beginning stages but the eyes don't look as severe. nitrates and nitrites both close to zero so not caused by that. not sure what else it can be. Is it significant that they are all at bottom of tank? Something wrong atvthe top?

Are the eyes red? Or just cloudy and flat? Is your filter agitating the waters surface? Or do you have aeration in the tank?

not red just sticking out. I have th biube so the filter sends bubbles up the middle pipe to the surface. There is also an air stone which was recently replaced.

also just remembered that when I lost neon in the week I commented to my boyfriend that it looked like his eyes were missing!

think that there is nothing I can do tonight but go to bed and hope that they are still alive in the morning. If the water change worked great but if not I guess I will have to come bak on here or go LFS.

I treated them with some general medicine last night (after the emergency water change) and this morning they are looking a bit more colourful. The tetras all appear to have dropsy though. But at least they are all swimming and not lying in the rocks at the bottom anymore. All too late for poor Mr Guppy though

Bacterial infection i'm afraid to say....

Thanks - as all the fish were sick I won't isolate the tetras, as it seem tht whtever the infection is was fast acting and they are all infected anyway, I will coninue to treat with the general tonic, and feed them some peas and then just hope that that helps.

If I loose anymore fish I will be sure not to replace them for a while.

Fish keeping can be hard - I gt so upset when they get a bit sick!

The same thing has happened again only 2 days later!

All of my fish are affected ecept for the gouramis. They were all perfectly fine just a couple of hours ago when I fed them (same food as always)

Water stats are all looking normal except for PH which is a little harder than usual (about 8).

If this is a bacterial infection why has it struck again when there is still medcine in the water. Doing another water change as this seemed to help last time so I d hope that this is a good idea.

Should I treat again with a general tonic? How do I find out what bacteria is infecting my fish so that I know how to treat it?

As the gouramis aren't being affected at all, and they are a new addition is itpossible that they are carriers of something horrible that affects other fish but not them?

the water change and another top up doseof medicine hasperked the fish up a bit overnight, andI didn't lose anymore. However I am worried that this is going to keep happening if I don't do something about it.

Any suggestions?
