Fish Addict Anonymous

I have less now.
One was an emergency tank, and the bubbler, those both shut down so that left 6.
Much more manageable.
I lost 2 fish, then
combined some
So I am in the process of getting it under control.

I have the following:

[2] 1g plant buckets

[1] 1.5g plant tank

[1] 2.5g plant tank

[1] 5g betta tank

[1] 10g beta tank

[1] 20g long tank

and last but not least [1] 29g tank. (My biggest, and best)

I just took down one 29 gallon tank and replaced it with a 50 gallon. I had my friend hide the old tank in my basement so I wouldn't be tempted to start yet another tank. BUT I do have my 5 gallon hospital tank that never gets used, going to put that together again and finally get one of those male betta fish. I want an all white one (about $50) but the one online fish company that sells them is perpetually out of stock.

I have two other 29 gallon tanks that have just a small number of fish but I don't want just ANY fish I want Dojos, Chocolate Gourami (I have one but need a friend for him), some breed of Rasbpras other than Harrliquin or other schooling fish. - oh and a full set of glo-fish tetras kist becaise they are fun and silly. I cannot find these (any of them in the numbers or types I need) at any of the online stores I'm used to dealing with and no local store is going to carry a Chocolate Gourami or a Dojo - they just carry the very most basic of fish - plus because of my sick lungs I don't dare go out in this heat and humidity (which is why almost all my shopping is online - even groceries and RX;s. I don't want to buy something spur of the moment only to find that they have special needs or are too aggressive for my other fish. My large 55 gallon tank is at max capacity with 8 large Gourami's - some up to 10 inches in length. So unless there is a horrific sudden death in that tank I'm stuck with them - they are not that pretty and not friendly and hide most of the time. Would love to try 60 schooling fish of the same species but it is not to be.

So where do you find all these cool fish that you can pick up on a whim? We have a PetSmart and a Petco and a single locally owned fish store with a lying bum of an owner. I only go there for emergency supplies. Heck even our Petsmart is out of all gravel except a couple bags of pink last time I was there.

I know I'm picky but I'm looking at some of the biggest online stores there are so if they don't have the ones I want I need to re-think what I need or just wait it out. 3 months ago these were all abundant in supply. They are blaming it on Corona-19 affecting their operations.

The typical thing happened today. I'm out running errands, which takes a while due to this covid lockdown. I decide to swing by pets at home for supplies, I couldn't help myself, but to have a quick look at the fish. I see two female betta's, looking pretty sad, I guess they were at the bottom of the hierarchy. I felt sorry for them, this stories starting to drag... they're now in the quarantine tank in my bedroom!

The end.
I get it. I can’t walk past the betta cups. It makes me sad and I want to take them all home.

Fish keeping is very addictive especially we have so many fish stores nowadays carrying almost any kind of fish or inverterbrates....
And from wild caught to farms bred species...
Some wild caught fish are amazing and they are more hardy than the farms bred fish..
But they cost more and I can't imagine how they had flown the fish all the way from South America and Africa...
It will take at least a few days for the fish to arrive in my country.
In my country, some fish are so cheap....for example the Neon Tetras cost 40 cents USD.
Just yesterday, I saw the Albino Corydoras selling at 50cents USD each.

I love a happy ending like this. :)
