First water change with fish 😰

So this was a failure... I hope my fish dont die... Or me... I did good with the siphoning part but I used the garden hose (after letting it run for a bit) to fill it and that was horrible... The fish were being thrown everywhere and the temp went down about six degrees. The substrate was also disturbed. My parents said: "Eventually you'll get better at it or you can use buckets to pour the water in"... I wont get better at this... The water pressure is too much... I did figure out after wards that I can turn down the water flow... But the temp still scares me when it comes from the outdoor water. And I dont feel comfortable using a bucket cause I can not control the water flow coming out (in other words I'm really weak). I hated that... I hated it so much
When I first started, I used to use a one 1 gallon container to refill. Took about 10 trips to the sink. Now I just use a 5-gallon container. It's heavy lifting but it gets it done much faster.

Now that I have sand I might have to go back to the 1g container. :-(

I wish I knew what to tell you. Your parents didn't end up letting you get the python right?

They'll let me get it as long as I pay for it but $40 is a lot... Then the added $10 for the little tool to remove the thing on the sink... So all together, its about $50 at least.

Most of my fish try to grab floating bits from the gravel vacuum. I don't do real small fish anymore, I sucked up 5 of my embers a few months back because my grandson was talking to me while I was cleaning the tank. I turned to talk with him and then he changed the subject and asked me how the fish get back in the tank. Since that experience I put the end of the syphon in a 5 gallon pail outside so that it overflows onto the grass. A kind of catch basin just incase a suck up some more.

oof that is a lot of money... maybe next time it snows where you are you could shovel for people and make some extra cash? :)

My syphon hose is a piece of 19mm clear plastic hose about 2m long. I bought it at a hardware store for around $5 and I have had the same piece for about twenty years.

haha. Where I am nobody likes shoveling at all so I have 5 regular clients. I charge them $40 plus $5 for every additional inch over 6 inches. In the summer i mow their lawns for about 40 every time. it adds up!

Thats a lot! My neighbor who is a stay at home dad wasnt able to mow his lawn for a few weeks in spring. The grass was THICK! He gave me $40 to do it but we tried to say that we would just do it as a favor... He insisted to pay. After we were done he said he didnt use his hoop much and also gave us his basketball hoop! I had been wanting one for soooo long! We almost felt bad but he just didnt take a no... He really wanted to do that for us

A little dab of epoxy to partially clog up the strainer will convince them they need the tool.
