Hi, had a 150ltr tank for a couple of months, cycled perfectly, and added 8 fishe a couple of weeks ago, now I need to do a water change.

Removing and adding the water isn't an issue, the temperature is, how do I change the water without shocking the fish with cold water, also how much water should I change?

Thanks

Morning Boogybaz... i change 40-50% of my water every week, which is deemed good practice. What i do is run both hot and cold (i have a mixer tap in the kitchen), get it roughly how i want it out of the tap then keep one hand in the bucket.. when you've done half a dozen water changes you'll get to know a rough estimate on how warm/cold it should be. After each bucket load goes in i check both my digital and mercury thermometers to see if the next bucket should be warmer or colder. Simples :good:

Terry.

PS- Add the water as slowly as physically possible, even if it takes 30 minutes.

I didn't think it was a good idea to use the hot tap?

Been doing it for years. Unless you have an open top gravity fed loft tank for hot water storage it isn't an issue.

Biggest problem with an open one is attic debris. Being closed this shouldn't be an issue.
