hi all , slightly new to the forum (been having a nose recently)

We bought some guppys 3 weeks ago 3 females one male. We knew they would breed but now not sure if they are ready to give birth just yet, they have the black mark around their back ends and have the 'white spot' with swollen bellies.

One has had 10 babies but we cant be sure of which one as they are all still so swollen.

We have now separated them from the others and put them in individual boxes, i would upload a picture but call me stupid.. i cant seem to do it!

hope someone can give me some guidance on this, we are first time guppy breeders, although we have had many molly babies in the past!

many thanks for reading and i look forward to your help! x

We are in a similar position, we woke up the other morning to find 20 odd guppy fry swimming around the top of our tank, we have just left them to get on and there all doing fine.
Have you got a plan with what you're going to do with them? We haven't got a clue at present!

With 3 females you are looking at an average of possible 40-60 guppy fry each month... to be honest, I'd not really do anything. Let them be born in the tank and have survival of the fittest so your numbers don't go insane. BUT... if you have access to a number of tanks that are cycled... you could go mad separating them. LOL

Have you managed to spot the eyes in the gravid spot? That is often a good indicator that babies will arrive within the week.

im first time breeder as well, decided to go down the fish hatchery route, when would i need to transfer her into it.

Hi
I agree to leaving them be and let the fittest survive. Having bred lots of guppys my advice would be to wait until you can tell if the fry are male or female then seperate the males into another tank. My breeding line got weaker after each generation because they inbred. You will need to get a new male from time to time to prevent inbreeding.
