First Time Dealing With Ich And Seperate Issue With Pleco

It's important to remember that there are a lot of medication resistant strains of ich around, so if one med doesn't work for you it doesn't mean the med is, in any way, rubbish or not effective, just that the particular strain of ich you're dealing with is resistant to it, and you'll have to try another.
yeah took me two meds to find quick cure which worked.

Only thing that worked was Mardel Quick Cure.  3 days no more syptoms, give it a try.

I agreed and I bought Mardel Quick Cure and treated in 3 days. Gone! works great and be sure to raise the temp. If it didn't work for you then something isn't right. This med is strong. Unless you had ick that is in 3rd stage which is covered and too late. Start saving the rest of the other fish. When my male king betta(Belac) was exposed with the black molly(died in 3rd stage of ick). He got two-three white spots, I dipped salt him until he was on his side. Moved him to a fresh warm water and waited until he revived. Then i put him back in his tank and raised the temp. to 84 along with salt and no other med mixed in. He show no sign of white spots the next couple days. He is happy and moving about. Its been over a week for him now. You could do the same thing but its depends how many days he is with ick and how bad it is. I would not dip salt him if covered with ick as the salt will kill it. Molly died after i dip salt her as she was covered and too late. I learned my lesson and decided to do it with the others with a first sign of showing ick. It works for the rest of my guppies and others until i got the Mardel Quick Cure. I paid a lot of money because I have no choice at the very moment and wanted to save a lot of the fish.
We all have different experienced and we all learned a great deal how to save one another.  Aren't we becoming a better Scientists? LOL
I hope this help.

However, my fish is off Mardel Quick Cure for the second days and the temp is up to 84 still along with the correct amts of salt. Just have to sit back and wait until the fish show (no) sign of ick

. Of course, I will have to go through it again only and if there is ick. It takes time and patient.

Are you using test strips to test your water or the liquid test strips?

It is strange that after a week since the last water change you have no readings of anything. A cycled tank has 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, but readings of Nitrate!

I am using the liquid test strip, supposedly the only one recommended to use the API test water kit.

Anyways guys, I've definitely suffered some mass casualties here and I've learned my lesson. Next time, I'll be so much prepared. I am about 95% sure the ich orignated from the local pet shop where I took my chances and where they convinced me to buy 3 loaches for a 20 gallon tank. Afterwards I found out that loaches grow up to be pretty big and having a 20 gallon will stunt their growth and lifespan. My fish, the ones that are not infected with ich are thriving, so I'm not sure why my readings are the way they are.

I will test again in a few days after the last infected fish I have can get through it. Take a look at my pics which I took on the 23rd (it's now the 26th of when i am posting this)

Waiting for Amazon to ship me the ich medication which arrives on Wednesday, hopefully my guppy lasts till then.

On another note, I've heard some great things about new life spectrum. Does anyone have any idea which one I need to get; it's a bit confusing. I currently have two platy, one baby endler guppy, adult endler guppy (infected), and two ghost shrimps. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dpets&field-keywords=New+Life+Spectrum&rh=n%3A2619533011%2Ck%3ANew+Life+Spectrum

Hey guys, I just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts are with using different medication if one medication of ich doesn't seem like it's working. Or how long I should wait before I try something else. Thanks.

What did you try and yes you can use another one but if you have picked one give it a few goes before you give up on it.

A good ich treatment:

Raise the temperature of the tank to at least 85-86 degrees F. Add aquarium salt (dissolved in water) at a ratio of, some say, 2 teaspoons of salt per gallon of water in your tank. You should do some more research on the quantity of salt to add, I do believe it really depends on the species. While your waiting, you could add an airstone to increase the O2 level. It will look worse before it gets better, but then you will see improvement and they will clear up. The treatment may take over a week.
