Dear all,

After upgrading to a larger, and deeper, aquarium, I've noticed that there are a couple of 'dead spots' on the sand.

the tank is 106L (30x12x24 inches) and filtered by 2 Eheim HOB's.

I've never used one before!

My link

Thats the one I've gone for (cheap, but seems to have good reviews)...

Do I just position it toward a rear corner out of site near the tank bottom?

And, maintainance wise, how long do these things last (i.e. do they need regular cleaning etc?)

Many thanks! pics once its in!

3000/lph wavemaker in a 100 litre tank? are you serious ? :D That things going to turn it into a washing machine whatever way you face it, lol :D

What fish do you have in the tank? Some fish will be stressed to death with that much circulation battering them around so be careful :D

Really cheap power head though!

"3000L/H POWER HEAD WAVE MAKER FOR AQUARIUM FISH TANK MARINE POWERHEAD Vibration 360°"

They're not kidding

Darn it! in my haste to buy one I thought it said 300L not 3000L!! Eeeek!

Hmmmm the tank has white clouds and a pitbull plec (with more of the same to come) ....

I take it then that this is WAY too powerful?

What size should I get? as I definately need one! ;p

*edit: BTW the description says:

"Suitable for up to 120 litres aquariums, also suitable for a tank with the depth of 60 to 100CM"

Thats why I picked it up...

Yar but its "Marine" and a "Wavemaker" :D

I would suggest a "Hydor Koralia NANO 900 Circulation Pump"

I've got two in my 5 footer, one each end, very quiet bit of kit. Until a leaf or two get sucked in then you gotta go swimming with one arm.

It shouldnt put out any more force than your filter.

Rorie has one for sale in the classifieds adds, but he has cut his cable to extend it, but if you dont mind the risk of killing yourself he only wants £17 for it. That said, i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole so dont blame me if you buy it and end up fried bread :D

Cheers!

Pity that pump was so cheap! It says fresh or marine....

may have to send it back for fibbing....

Thanks I'll check out the smaller one :)

I wouldnt be suprised if it was really noisey after a while though, it is really cheap compared to Hydor ones. I'm sure it would be alright in a freshwater setup, but i would guess 4+ foot tank size. They really do make the surface bob a lot too, very cool to watch in marine setups, just a little too violent in tropical ones.

I got my Hydors from here, was the cheapest i could find at the time.

If you're going down the Koralia route, try your LFS. Mine has the nano for the same price as that link in their Marine section

Thanks we only have a pestathome and a garden centre/petshop here in Aber (since the local stopped doing aquatics).

I managed to grab one off amazon for £22 posted, that'll do, hopefully I can send the other one back.
