Hello everyone

My name is Chris, and this is my first post to this forum. I have a 90gal freshwater tank.

Here is a list of my equipment:

90gal all glass tank

Magnum350 pro delux filter

Fluval 403 ,currently broken I am going to try to use a power head to drive it when the power head arrives.

HYDOR THEO Heater 400W

48" 2x45watt ( i think) light

42" moon light submersible light (blue)

List of fish:

1) 3" loach (not sure what kind it is but it is golden/yellow with black tiger like stripes)
4) Black neons 1"
1) small angel 2"
1) small common pleco 1.5"
1) 6" bala shark
1) small 2" funny lil catfish ( sorry I new I cant remember the name, will add it later)

I am not new to keeping fish but I am new to actually trying to do it the right way if you all know what I mean. I just really started researching and trying to make good choices, so if what I have so far is totally wrong I wouldn't be surprised.

I do have a 29 gal tank that is not setup. I plan to move some fish to this tank when I figure out what type of fish I want in my main tank (90gal)

Here are my goals and questions on how to attain them:

1. I would like to convert my fish only 90gal into a planted with fish tank. I understand I will need to change out my pretty blue gravel with some type of more natural gravel ( i want a natural look) and something like laterite.

2. During my recent quest for knowledge I discovered the wonderful world of planted tanks and my obsession began. I would like to build a diy co2 reactor and hook it into the input of one of my canister filter. Currently not using an airstone. (should I ? ) I want to grow plants but ready it would lose co2 ?

3. I want that nice carpeted look in the front and a mixture of taller plants in the back. I also would like to add a cave or some sort of cover for my loach and his catfish buddy.

4. I have added some horn wort (2 bunches) to the tank and they seem to be growing like crazy. I have tried several of the walmart plant bulbs and only got 2 to grow but they grew well for a couple of week and now all but died. I have a lot of fuzzy bulbs in the tank that need removed.

Please help me with a plan of attack on my quest for a planted tank.

Thanks
Chris

ps: I will test the water tonight and give the stats. I know my PH has been very high, my temp has been very high 82-83F can seem to get a good heater these days. 0 nitrite 0 amo and really high off the charts nitrate but coming down slowly.

Thank You !

I forgot to add that I also have 2.5" Siver dollar as well. and my two light bulbs are 40watts each at 18,000 K (power glow)

Here is the loach I have. The store told me it was not a very common one. I have had him or her (how can you tell? ) for about 4 yrs.]

I guess they really arent like tiger stripes more random. Anyway wish I knew what he is...

I plan to read everything I can get my eyes on, on this site......

OK..

I just tested. Please let me know what I really need to work on.

Temp 80F

PH 7.6

Nitrate 40+ ppm

Nitrite 0 ppm

Ammonia 0 ppm

KH 4 x 17.9 = 71.6 ppm

GH not sure if I am just testing wrong or if there is somthing wrong with my test solution. It wont turn Green. I keep adding drops . At first it was clear after the first few drops ( no color change ) but I added 60 + drops still yellow/orange. So either i need a new test kit or its really hard .
