First Marine Fish!

They were labelled as black Percula's in the fish shop.

I thought you could get red and black Percula clowns, neither of which are actually black clowns...if that makes sense?

They seem really happy anyway, and are in great condition, very colourful and stockily built. They didn't eat yesterday, but on day one that was maybe a bit soon. Hopefully they'll eat today.

I think, if I understand correctly, the clowns with thicker black lines either side of their white 'stripe' are true perculas, but will stay orange/red. The ones with a thinner black line are osellaris.(someone correct me if I am wrong!) Black clowns are black though, they are orange when they are small, but slowly get blacker, mine still have orange noses. Yours seem way to big to still be orange, so I think they'll stay orange. :good: These are my black clowns - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1406117 they were very small when I got them, they have grown alot.

Did you see your clowns feeding in the LFS?

Exactly right sparkle. He's got "true" perculas here. SOME clowns that are mostly orange are still perculas though. The true defining characteristic between perc and ocellaris is the number of spines they have on their dorsal fins. I forget how many spines are specific to which species though

Both are eating frozen brine shrimp w/ spirulina, but only one of them has taken to flaked food. Will the other eventually take flake do you think?

They can be picky at first. If they are eating frozen, you might want to try mysis... Either way, a clown with a full stomach on less than perfect food is better than a clown with an empty stomach :good:

Cheers,

Both have taken cyclopeeze tonight, so I think they'll fine.

They are so funny, they love playing with the cleaner shrimps and with each other and they sleep together.
The larger one was sucking the smaller ones fin last night, very gently, but had the whole fin in its mouth. I assume it was cleaning it, theres no damage and the smaller fish didn't mind at all

they are rally nice whatever they are i love cowns. cant wait to get mine. oh and sorry if i said rubbish earlier confused myself

Your Clowns look realy good, I have been keeping a marine since I was young, I have Tropical, Coldwater, Marine & Ponds Fish. not that I dont have a social life or anything.

Marines are the way to go they are so colourful and interesting, If you are ever in the North West, Have a Look in a place called Water World, that were I get all my stuff from because there is nowhere else with the selection.
