First Loss - Nitrite Still High

I have a fluval two and it in the cuboard where it belongs fine for a 12 gal with a few small fish.
The sponges in the fluval two is the brown muck only at the top of the sponges and the bottom clean as i turn them around so they get an even coating of bacteria on them.

Post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Need tap nitrate reading.

Hi Wilder,

Readings as follows:

Nitrite: 0.25!
pH: 6.6
amm: 0
tap Nitrite: 0

At least we seem to be getting somewhere!!

I think another day of three 30% cycles and I should have nitrite down to zero.

I still have the nitrazorb in the filter, when should I remove this? after one week?

I have sadly lost another guppy, in fairness this guppy has been struggling since saturday when the filter slowed down. Looked like he had swollen a little and found him lying on his back...

Its looking better, tap nitrate of 0 youre lucky mine nearly 27.5.
Fingers crossed hope it drops fast as its taking its toll on the fish.
Sorry about the guppy bless him.
R.I.P.

Thanks wilder, looks like things are getting better.

I gave the water changes a rest over the weekend and just carried another out.

Results as follows:

ph: 7.2
amm: 0
nitrite: 1.0

Still high.. I am thinking about giving the Gouramis and sharks back to the lfs, is this a good move?

Also, when should I remove the nitrazorb bag and introduce the other filters again?

tia

I would defiantely rehome the sharks.
If any fish are ill nobody will want them.

As for the filter and the zitrazorb ask in tropical chat.
Good luck.

If it helps any I has huge problems with Nitrites and Nitrates for weeks, could not get the water levels down in my 10 gallon tank. I stepped up my filter from the standard 5-15 my kit came with and my LFS advised was sufficient and got a 10-20 gallon Aquatesh filter, with 120 gph rating :flex: . All my water levels now sit at a very pretty 0 :yahoo: . Just though I would interject that since I had been struggling with Nitrites also.

Cheers

Well, after what 3-4 weeks of worry and a loss of 4 fishes, I have zero nitrite! :good:

Thanks to all and the tank looks very normail now, fish are happy bar a bully in the shape of a gourami.

I will keep the tank as is for at least 3-4 weeks and two weekly water changes before thinking about adding again and will as above look at upgrading the filter.

Thanks again!
