Hi,

I am due to add the first fish choice to the tank (Rio 240) The tank is planted and has a a number of floating plants).

PH 7
Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite are zero.

These are all I have tested for.

So my thoughts are as per list below.

Otocinclus - maybe 4/5
Rainbow Tetra or another type of Tetra- maybe 10
Cory - maybe 4/5
Harliquin maybe 5/6 or more ?

NOTE I will not be adding all of these, just one from the list.

Picture of the tank attached.

Thoughts on which be a good choice please.

Thanks,

Living in Harrogate you should have soft water so all your choices are suitable.

Leave otos a few months as they need a mature tank (one that has been running over 6 months) which as grown a lot of algae.

Harlequins would do better with more than 5 or 6 and in 240 litres you have plenty room for over a dozen.

Hi,

My LFS did not gave any Harlequins in stock, so I came home with 12 Penguin Tetras. Just added to tank now (turned lights off) and they seem happy :).

Congrats on the new fish, nice choice

I have a Rio 240 planted community tank which has the following fish:
8 Pentazona Barbs
10 Cardinal Tetras
7 Ember Tetras
12 Ottos
3 False Julii Corys
3 Salt and Pepper Corys
and a Snowball Pleco

The Pentazonas are my favourite small fish, very colourful and very active at feeding time!

Sounds lovely, do you have a photo you could share - and how old is the tank please ?

Thank you

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

Hi,
Water hardness average:28.1 mg/l calcium
It is Jewel Rio 240 with the internal filter removed - 121 x 41 x 55cm , not sure about Hardness - but my local water supply shows the above and PH of 7.3

28.1 ml/l calcium converts to 4 dH and 70 ppm
