First Ever Fish Tank-Juwel Rio 125Ltr Marine

That black and white snail looks suspiciously like a sundial, google it and check, if it is get it out now before you have any zoaa, as they eat them

Can I make a suggestion about rock layout - having a wall can be difficult for flow, restricts swimming space and will be a dog to clean the back, think about a more natural construction :good:

As soon as the snails went in they began munching on the stuff!!! the glass has a big circle and a few trail snails of clean glass now!!! :p

The crabs are so fun to watch! theve been munching on loads of algea and picking bits of the rock! the emerald is my favorite so far haha

I have loads so i hope there no problem! one attached to the crabs leg last night but didnt effect him!

There not those sundails thankfully! very similar pattern and colouration but the sundial has a round shell were as these are the longer shells and they have a black trunk at the front which the sundials do not pheewwww haha

O belive me Ive tried a more natural look :p i may have to invest in some putty as its impossible trying to stack them safly and have a good look about them!!!!

I have a lot of space towards the front of the tank so should I maybe try stacking the rocks more central?

Thanks

Luke

Google dove snail as well as they may be them. I have loads and I believe they are a decent addidtion to the CUC.

I used to get the brown algae on glass but reducing my lighting helped that. as far as the diatoms is concerned I still get that 5 months later so if you find a cure let me know!!!

I think ive got my scape almost how i want it now! far more holes for fish to swim through so that should improve the flow tons! i will get a pic tonight!

my dirty glass has been coverd in snails and starfish the last few days and tons of copepods at night!

I have orderd some more CUC inc

Pom Pom crab
Boxing shrimp
micro blue hermit x 2
red legged hermit
some snails inc cerith

this should be a good size cuc as there is still loads of algea and hair algea on my LR!

nitrates have reached 20 ish and PH is under 8 but other than those everything else is ok :D

2 clown fish will be going in on sunday! as well as a change in the internal filter media from the juwel sponges

ive have also orderd some new t5s to replace the ones that came with the tank. it was buy 2 get one free so i orderd 2 28w marine whites and 1 28w blue actinic.

Im also looked at some temp controllers as yesterday i got a little concerned at the temp changes occuring in the tank! it reached almost 29 degrees at one point and it got there quickly! then over night dropped to under 27.

Luke

Sounds like you are chugging along nicely, are you keeping up with 20% water changes weekly?

Yeap its all coming along great and so far no major problems (touch wood). Ive done one and doing my next one on wed so i can let it settle and check the water before i get the fish at the weekend. Put my two new t5s in tonight so got a 28w white and a 28w blue actinic in! What type of corals would they sustain? Just to give me an idea of what i can look into in the future.

Luke

Cheers Harry!

Not gunna put any in yet but just for future reference! wen u go the Lfs you always end up getting home with somthing else youve spotted! :p

Any body got any advice on the lighting units and adding more bulbs to the rio 125?

Ive recently purchased 3 28w t5s to replace the tropical bulbs it came with.

I have fitted one white and one blue to the original light unit and have one white spare.

I need some advice on how to add this other bulb to the hood. What fittings do I need? where can I get them from?

And where is the best plce to attach them on the tank?

Thanks
Luke

i got this http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-lighting/fluorescent-tube-control-units/glo-t5-electronic-double-ballast-2-x-24w.html but there isnt a single one  but something like that.
i put mine on the lid :good:

Ahhh yes they look like they will do the job :D
only problem i may have is the bar across the centre of the tank :S might be in the way but will have to measure what space there is.

Cheers Harry.

Got a wish list still of:

skimmer - prob deltec
t5 starter pack
phosphate for in the internal filter to replace juwel media
heater controller
cheap second hand heater and power head as backup.
Reflectors for the lights

thats about all i can think of up to now.

Tomoro I should be getting my last bits of cuc deliverd
1x pom pom crab
1x banded boxing shrimp
3x turbos
2x cerith
1xleg redded hermit
2x micro blue shrimp

that should do quite nicly :D

then sunday two clown fish :D also thinking i want a yellow watchman goby and possible a pistol shrimp to c if they pair up! they look loads of fun :D thats for the future tho!

Luke

WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

My boxing shrimp, hermits and snails are now sat by me on my desk at work :D (Making me think of how good a tank would be at work :D a future idea for wen I get my own office :p lmao)

No sign of the pom pom crab tho grrrrr :S

Straight into the tank to begin the process of introducing them when I finish :D

Luke
