I'm very interested in eels, but don't know which ones I should look for. So can anyone suggest a good beginner eel, along with any info on them. Thanks.

Peacock eels are my fave, they're freshwater too, spiney eels are good. Just be sure you get a tank big enough for an eel, they tend to get really large really fast.

EDIT: Look them up on google, you'll get loads of great sites.

As suggested a smaller Asain Spiny Eel is probably best like the Peacock Eel (Macrognathus aculeatus), some more information here http://www.fishforums.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=41583 . There are other species including Swamp Eels (Monopterus albus), Fire Eel (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia) and Track Eel (Mastacembelus armatus) but these species reach far larger sizes and their temprement does not match the smaller more compatible Peacock Eels.
