Thought I would share pictures of my first betta. He's a very lively and smart veiltail. I adopted him from an ad I found on craigslist and carried him home in his 0.5g bowl the other day (was surprised more people didn't gawk at me, but maybe guys walk around with fish in bowls all the time in Boston).

The next day I transferred him to my planted 10g tank where he is the sole inhabitant (except for a bunch of snails). The Sunday after I transferred him I woke up to discover he had started building a bubble nest (he has maintained it for the last two weeks). I captured him blowing a bubble into the nest. Unfortunately, I am very much an amateur with the camera and managed to capture a reflection of the lens and the flash to boot. Shield your eyes. If you are not blinded, you can see the "OOM" in zoom reflected on the glass :p

Shortly after that picture, he discovered that I was playing photographer. Here he is turning towards me saying "hey, no pictures":

In this third picture, he's decided to kill me. It's a bit blurry because I am falling away from the tank in terror and snapped the picture before I was to be devoured:

I think I may have caught him in mid-flare, a bit difficult to tell really. Fortunately, he spat my camera out after the attack; guess it didn't agree with him. Hope you enjoy~

awesome pictures! and a lovely betta  he's got some attitude in him :flex: i like it B)

Lovely vivid colours! Post more pics if you catch one with his fins filled out and flaring...

Thanks all for the kind words!

mrbones and whiskerz: he did show me! I'll have to take my next photos of him more stealthily. If I use a telephoto lens from across the room and hide behind my futon...

cutecotton: he certainly is a feisty one! I'm actually a bit afraid of replanting some of the plants for fear that he'll attack me for disrupting his bubble nest :p

sunflower: his previous owner named him "Alpha". I suppose that's still his name~ :p :)

tekknocolor and appleblossom: he does look happy! I don't know if I'll feel right about cramming my next betta into my empty 5.5g. I'm surprised he's kept up the bubblenest for so long...

bunji: I'll do my best. As you can see I risked life and limb to get these pictures, but anything for the good of the forum :p :)

He's very beautiful Sin! :kewlpics:

Are you planning on putting any other fish in the tank?

Thanks again for the kind words!

Syn, Billy and Eja, thanks so much :)

Auratus I think he's going to stay by himself for right now. I thought about getting a couple of cories or something but I don't think they'd do well with the laterite substrate I have as it's fairly sharp.
