anyone recognise those plants in there? don't know the names of them lol.. well i've decided to name him 'Ivan' don't know why but thats the first name that came to mind :p

i got him this food http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290543725610&category=20759&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 - he doesn't seem interested when i put a few pellets in..how will he find them after, is there other food i can get him? the food i've got is that any good?

He's so beautiful, such a strong colour. You could try feeding him live foods to supplement his diet. My betta also loves frozen bloodworms every now and then. They should also take tropical fish flake.

i think i might have gone OTT on the plants tho lol..i've got the tank at 25C-26C..but do they normally not eat for a few days or are they known to be eater? i ask this because i have gold fish and they are food crazy. whats live food?

bloodworms and such. You can find them at your LFS

Some bettas gobble their food and are increadibly greedy and others for some unknown reason are far more picky and will just nibble at their food. Live food includes things such as bloodworms, daphnia, mealworms etc. It's good for your betta to have a range of foods from flake to live food to veggies, just to make sure he's getting all the nutrients and vitamins etc that he needs. :) he looks in great shape though, his colours are strong which is always a good sign.

right then, so blood worms and daphina it is..they don't munch on lettuce or anything like goldfish do they? plus i've got Gold fish flakes..what if i gave him some of them?

I can't say 100% on the goldfish flakes but I'd avoid them as I don't think they'll do him much good as far as nutrition is concerned. Your betta may eat some lettuce or cucumber if you pop a little in. I know that mine like to have a little munch on a piece of cucumber :)

what a beautiful fish!! i was never a big fan of bettas but the more great specimens i see on here the more i think...i want 1!!

:hyper:

ps - i think ivan is a good name!! often names just pop into your head for no reason!! i once had a discus called penelope and am getting a dwarf puffer i plan to call george!! i also have a cat called madge!! lol

I don't know about lettuce, but I fast my betta once a week for 2 days, and give him some bits of a fresh pea. It cleans em out as they are prone to swim bladder problems. My bettas havent had a problem since I started doing that.

lol i've always wanted a betta but didn't have a tank or heater, 'penelope' - reminds me of penelope pitt stop :D

i tried peas and cucumber with my goldfish but they weren't having any of it :/ i think i'll give it a shot with this dude..defo need to get him some flakes asap, think that other food he'll find when he's hunting but mostly it just floats to the edges and with bits of leaves etc from the plants floating at the top i don't think he'll bother looking up there lol

Hello my friend, if your betta has a hard time eating try atison betta pellets. They are top quality food that breeders themselves use. Its healthy and great and betta loves it i guarantee. They are not usually sold in store so i ebay mine all the time. They are made by ocean nutriention.

Plant wise it looks as though in the first picture you have Elodea behind Ivan and Ambulia beside him.

3rd This could be Magenta, Pink baby tears or a type of Ludwigia and the broard leafed tall plant looks like Java Fern. Java fern doesn't like being planted it prefers to be tied on to a piece of timber or ornamant.
The other really tall plant in the last picture growing in the corner I have not seen before,

As for foods for Ivan, mine love getting live mozzie wrigglers, bloodworms and he eats the odd baby shrimp, mine will eat tropical flakes under surrerance but he prefers Hikari Tropical mico pellets.

Sometimes after travelling or getting a new home to explore, a Betta wont eat for a couple of days, its quite normal. Personally I always avoid flakes with Bettas as I find they don't go for them as much. With the frozen and live foods, don't feed him them every day as you will cause him problems and its always good to miss a day of feeding to let him purge any food out of his system. If its any help I used to feed like this:

Monday - Pellets, Tuesday - Live/frozen food (say blood worm), Wednesday - pellets, Thursday - Pellets, Friday - live/frozen food (say daphnia), Saturday - less pellets and half a cook shelled pea, Sunday - no food.

I would also avoid freeze dried foods at all costs, so often they cause problems in Bettas (mainly swimbladder related) and frozen or live is just as cheap and easy.

Good luck and happy Betta keeping :good:

@HMONGOL - are they any different to the hikari betta bio gold food?

i've been reading on here that the Hikari have some ingredient, i think it was wheat flour or something, that's not good for them? well he's started eating the hikari betta bio gold food, feed him like 2-3 pellets a day..which is better? hikar or atison?
