My firemouth and texas cichlid keep flaring their gills, lip locking and going in circles together. I had the texas in the tank first and added the firemouth after.(120 gallon) At first the texas was chasing the FM and now it seems like the FM is sticking up for him/herself. I think the FM is male...atleast thats what the guy at the petstore told me and he has a lot of red on his belly. So my question is could a FM and Texas mate? They are both about 3 inches. Or maybe the FM is just really aggressive cuz when I seen him he look so colorful I had to get him...but he was chasing the other larger convicts around in the tank at the petstore. Thanks for any help. Chad

That they are gonna mate or are just being aggressive toward each other b/c territories?

Sorry ,only thought there was 1 question . If you have a male and a female of each they may breed .

cichlids will be Territorial and may be become aggressive as a result .

I'm thinking the firemouth is male. Not sure about the texas, but the texas does guard the log I have in there. I know with my convicts the female guards the eggs furiously. Cuz I now have fry. Thanks for the info.

sounds like their just arguing over territories to me! breeding could occur but i dont think thats what it is, may be wrong tho?

atleast this will boost it back to the front, to get more comments!!! ;)
