Hey guys, I got my first fish yesterday, along with four astrea snails and a zebra striped hermit. The snails and hermit have already made a big impact into my horrific hair algae infestation. The firefish however took a carpet dive out of the bag right after I got him and spent the night on his side in the tank. This morning whn the lights went on he darted behind a rock and has stayed there all day. I managed to feed him some brine shrimp with a pippette and he ate it so I think he's OK.

Here's a FTS:

And here's a close up of the hermit and an astrea snail:

Well i can't really say much with all that hair algae :*)

As soon as it clears up be sure to post some piccys, looks like lots of potential there :D

The firefish is fine now, swimming all over the place. He isn't scared of me at all and readily accepted some flake. I think it was probably just in shock from the stress of being moved. Here is a piccy of it now:

I know it's a pretty bad picture, just snapped it just now. It really doesn't do him justice, he's a beautiful fish.

Sorry for the hair algae :*) I'm hoping the snails will take care of it.

It's not that bad, just a little bit on the bright side.
I just think Firefish are gorgeous period.

This morning I could see no sight of the fish in the tank, so I looked on the lid. He was stuck on the lid, all dried out and very dead. He had managed to jump through one of the little 1cm diameter holes on each side of the lid then been unable to get back into the tank, and suffocated.

I won't get any more fish for a while.

sorry for your loss, that firefish was so pretty. well at least now you can concentrate on ridding your tank of that hair algae. what type of corals are you planning to keep in it?

firefish are notorious jumpers, i am forever moving them back to their original tanks after having jumped to the neighbouring tank of the rack. If you have any holes in the lid cover them with mesh.

I would wait until you have gotten your hair algae under control before you introduce another fish. If you have lots of it then it may be an indicator that you have high nitrates. Hermits make light work of it if you have enough of them, i would get another 2.
