Hey there people :)

The other day I realised I had a spare tank in the
attic so, I've decided to make it a firebelly toad setup!

The tank is about 15G. And I have a few questions for you:

1. Tomorrow i'm getting a devider made up (for water/land areas) and would like to
know how tall this devider should be (tank is 13" tall).

2. How much land : water ratio should I have?

3. How many toads can I have in here?

And any more advice or opinions on how the tank should look/be set out would be great!

Thanks,

Maximus B)

Thanks for the links, very useful :good:

I got the divider lazer cut at college today and
in an hour or so I'll be sealing it in. I'll prob post
some pics of a mini-journal type thing,

Thanks again,

Hey there, just a quick question;

I dont think it's right to have a 4-5"
substrate of amphibian mulch and a
thin layer of moss. I think that being that deep
all kinds of mites ect will thrive in there.

So, will I be ok having maybe 3" of gravel
then the moss ect on top of that?

It has to be this tall to match the level
of the divider

Can anyone help me please,

Thanks in advance,

Maximus

There doesn't seem to be many toad-keepers around. ;)

I agree that having that thick of a substrate would be a haven for bad bacteria and nasties. Why do you think you have to go so deep?

The picture near the bottom of this page http://badmanstropicalfish.com/paludarium/paludarium5.html shows only about an inch of gravel and a solid land surface (looks like fake rocks but real rocks would be nicer, IMO).

Why are you putting a divider in the tank?

Thanks GoldLenny :good:

I'm putting a sloped (like this lol / ) devider in the tank so that I
can have a 3/4 water 1/4 land ratio. And I think it will look good lol

Plus If I ever change my mind on the toads, I have crabs newts ect as
an option :shifty:

It has to be this deep to match the level of the devider, if not, I'll have
a drop between the water/land.

Think I could use gravel as a base then mulch and a thin layer of moss?
I say gravel because if I use bigger rocks the mulch and other crap will
fall between then :grr: Which will be a bast*** to clean lol
