Would you be able to get a proper side view of their cloacas? In mature males, the cloaca will be quite swollen looking in comparison to the female. From what I can see, the first 2 look like girls and the others are boys but it's difficult to tell. This link might help :) http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/sexing.shtml

newt 2 is a girl and the other 3 from the photos I'm swaying to be more male (check out the link to caudata in my footer - they'll have pictures on there :)).

From the top newt 1 and 4 aren't "rounded" - they are straight; which is more a male shape.

I also think you need to check newt 3 is eating as it looks pretty skinny from the top.

I have one really thin newt in comparison to the other newts (he is handfed to make sure he actually eats - as he doesn't associate anything that isn't had fed as food - he'll sniff it and get excited but he won't eat it!).

Male newts will get a bigger swelling at mating season too.

i feel so much like i am invading their privacy on so many different levels! LOL. these newts are JUST in from florida (im in va) and theyve never been in a tank before. theyre not really liking any of the 'store' food. i noticed that one was skinny too, but none of them will eat anything atm. ?! well, i put a couple really tiny guppies in there, and skinny did grab one, that was yesterday. but no one else seems interested so far. i keep trying though! im gonna try and get some better pics in a little bit.

#3 is also VERY active. likes to go on adventures and is always up to something

well! it seems i will be having to wait a little bit before i get more pictures of the newts - it seems that they are shedding, and quite grumpy at the moment! lol oops]

Try hand feeding bloodworms or brine shrimp.

One of my chinese fire bellied newts will NOT eat unless he is handfed brine shrimp. Not blood worms just brine shrimp. You could try them with live bloodworm too?

The best thing to feed them is earthworms chopped up.

hes been eating alot better the last couple days and his appetite has picked up. he gets his own little 'feeding shack' whenever its chow time because theres one newt whos quite the vacuum cleaner!

okie doke, i posted new pics. 'newt gender, round two'
