Are ragged fins on veilfin angels always indicative of finrot? Cause one of my remaining baby veils' pectoral fins are in pretty bad shape. It looks like chunks have been torn off and it may be getting infected. Should I begin treating with melafix? Or something else?

One of my rams has a bit of finrot and I've been treating with melafix.

If it's not finrot, it could just be from the stress of moving. Finrot could set in if you don't treat it... Or, it could be getting nipped by someone else in the tank...

Melafix might work, but it's not close to a 100%. The finrot could be caused by bacteria or fungus, so try meds for the latter first and then move on to the former if problems persist.

Are the fins just torn or do they have some sort of growth or decay on them?

i was using melafix n it did stop the fin from rotting even more, at least i think it did but it caused my ammonia levels to spike to 4.0ppm so i had to change the water n put the carbon media back into the filter. its been 24 hours since n my ammonia level is at 2.0ppm. im waiting for these numbers to drop to zero b4 i add more melafix in for treatment. But u add melafix everyday( for me its 1 teaspoon for 10g). w/e u do i hope ur fish gets well soon. im also hopping my angel will get well soon so that i can get my poor little tiger barbs out this lil ass fish net breeder thats in my 55g n return them to their home in the 10g. i feel sry for them they just sit at the bottom n do nothin. good luck. if u need more help refer to GAYA111 cuz she helped me alot. here is a link to a forum that u may be able to get sum info from hope it helps. http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=57597

i wouldnt buy angels from petco. i lost 12 in 2 weeks cuz of their 14 day guarantee policy n i wanted the fish. after that last one died i stopped buying them from petco.

IME...yes. Should see results in a few days.
