Hello,

I'm looking to recreate or get very close to the fine bubble mist you can achieve in marine tanks in a a freshwater tank.

What would be the best material to use on the end of an air line? Also, I would like it to cover as large an area as possible.

Kind regards.

I'm not really sure what you're on about with the "bubble mist" as I've never seen anything like that… but if you want finer bubbles from an airstone, you just need to get a finer airstone. I think the wooden ones are usually finer that the "stone" ones.

Marine tanks manage fine bubbles (much to the annoyance of most sw aquarium keepers) because of the difference in proteins in the water. Much the same way that the sea tends to froth in waves but it takes a lot more to get white water in rivers.

So you'll never get the fine mist you're probably thinking of, but, as said, wooden air stones would manage some of the finest airstone mists and, if your pump is meaty enough, the ceramic CO2 diffusers (but you need a fair amount of pressure to run those, so expect a noisy pump and possibly no bubbles).
