Yea i can see the shimmer in that pic, it looks really cool:)

I get it on the sunny days when the sun shines in my room but this also brings the unwanted heat :(

Question about the closed loop now that we have the sump & lighting sorted out.

I want the closed loop to have one intake and two outputs. I want it to deliver about 30X the tanks volume (Total system volume or just the tank volume?), this will be 840GPH if it's just the tank volume.

What size piping should i use for the intake and what size for the return?

I'd use at least 1" for both the intake and return, then 3/4" for the split to the two individual outputs. Since its a closed loop you can just drill and fit a bulkhead anywhere below the water level. Be calm and steady when you solvent weld and you shouldnt have a problem :)

Edit, if you want 850gph of actual flowrate, best to go with a 1000gph pump cause there are some minor line losses :)

Don't worry there is no way on earth i will have anything to do with fitting the piping, that's all down to my grandad :lol:

So 1" can handle 850GPH for sure?

:lol: Sorry to be a nightmare but what is the piece calle tha joins to different sized piping up?
 
Reducing T in the states :). Not sure what you brits have available to you though... Might have to go with a reducing coupler to a 3x3/4" T
 
Its called a reducer. just like a straight connector but with different sizes on each end.

If your splitting the return into 2 then wouldnt you have to make sure they are exactly the same length and height ? otherwise the water would just take the easiest route and you wouldnt get as much flow thru the other outlet ?

might be wrong tho.

For pipe size, have a look at the size of the outlet on the pump you decide to use and then use what fits that ?
 
Daneeboy is right, if you want equal flow through each of the two returns you'll need equal tubing lengths, but its not really necessary to do so since he wants overall flowrate in his tank. Things in nature aren't perfectly uniform, why should they have to be in our tanks :D

I will try and keep the tubing the same length to get even flow spread in the tank.

Can't you use an adapater on the end of the pump, if the outlet is to small or big for the intended piping?

Well, your pump of that size will likely come with 3/4" threads, maybe even 1" threads. You'll have to adapt that, and then adapt the T
