Finally Got A Nitrite Spike.

It took a full month to the day and I finally got the nitrite spike. Whoo hooo.

And your happy about this????????????????????????

Nitrite is bad!!!!! You need to do some water changes and perhaps get some ammonia blocks or perhaps a good water conditioner such as prime, it helps take nitrite and ammonia etc out of water and makes the water safe for fish while nitrite is present. Nitrite makes it hard for your fish to breath.

Unless your original post was meant for sarcasm I wouldnt be too happy about the spike. It seems you were expecting it which means you could have prevented it. If your tank is newly established then placing ammonia blocks or using prime in early stages would have perhaps slowed the spike down. If it is a new tank set up are you cycling with fish or without? Gold fish are apparently hardy when it comes to cycling and they also poo alot which creates the cycle a little faster. They also tolerate alot more poor conditions than other fish.

Sorry if I sound rude but I cant understand how someone would be excited about such a thing as a nitrite spike. They can be DEADLY!

Uhm, they're probably doing a fishless cycle (least I hope so) and are happy that they're finally getting a nitrite spike.. don't jump to conclusions...

I agree, I am a newbie and was very happy when I got a nitrite spike whilst doing my fishless cycle as it meant everything was going to plan!

yeah fishless cycling is my guess too! lol

Yep it actually occurred to me this was the case seeing the excitement was so high. I hope no offense was taken. Sorry if it seems I was jumping to conclusions. I think I said something about cycling the tank. Im sorry but I have come across some pretty daft people in my time. Just covering all aspects.

Congrats on your spike if it is cycling you are doing. Seems you probably are.... srry again

None taken (though I was about to accuse you of being daft :D ) And yes it is a fishless cycle. I really need to get my clown loaches into the bigger tank.
