Ok. After weeks of obcessing (wow, I spelled that wrong but can't figure how to spell it right :*) I have finally decided exactly what fish I want in my 55 gal tank.

Here's the list:

3 Angelfish (probably one koi, one marbled and one veiltail black)
2 Parrot Cichlid (probably one blood red and one tailess blood red or purple)
5-6 White Skirt Tetra
4-5 Corydoras Catfish
1 small pleco (currently in another tank)

What do you think? I know everyone has conflicting opinions of parrot cichlids but to me they are like cross breeding dogs. I see nothing wrong with it. I adore mix-breeds :)

I have a sand substrate. Lots of fake plants, a few real ones and a Wisper 60 filter and a Wisper 40 filter also to be installed when I emply out another existing tank.

Almost finished with fishless cycle and hopefully will be ready by Christmas.

i have no idea if parrots and angels are compatible, but it sounds like it will be a nice looking tank. i know blood parrots are a big issue here, but i'm sure you will take care of yours and see to their needs if they end up having and feeding issues and whatnot.

it's 'obsessing' :D (ok, ok, i wasn't sure, so i used a spell checker :p )

what kind of corydorsas are you planning on?

Thank you thank you for correcting my spelling. That was driving me crazy.

I haven't decided what type of corys. I really have a thing for pandas but I'm not sure how they will look in this tank since the bottom is a pale tanish pink. They might look washed out. I'm thinking something darker and definitely not albino. Do you have any suggestions?

Also, I have studied the parrot cichlid a great deal and understand the debates they raise. Also, they are compatible with Angels as they are usually very docile. Although, you never know. They do have individual personalities like any other creature. I could end up with a madman :sly:

Thanks for your opinions, keep um comin' :D

ok, a few of my favourite types of corydoras are the leopard cory, the bronze cory and one i have called a 'schwartzi' cory (or something like that!! :p ). i like the pandas as well :D . i know what you mean about albinos - you don't want your fish to be too camouflaged!!

A far as red blood parrot cichlids go, more power too you, they are just hybrids.

But... when you go looking at tailess mutants and pastel colored ones, keep in mind that they are not like a dog mongrel, they are artificially engineered, and/or artificially and painfully injected with dyes and such. At least hybrids come from two real , unaltered fish. People who truly care about fish will stay away from these horrible varieties.

Lastly just to be nitpicky and annoying -_- Parrot cichlids and Blood Parrots are two different fish. Parrots are actual strains of fish existing in the wild.

Cheers, and good luck with your tank!

4-5 Corydoras Catfish

Hi Missy :)

Here's a link for a spell checker that installs right on Internet Explorer if you are using it. It works great! It was designed for people who post on forums etc. You will just have to right click on your mouse to bring it up.

There are many beautiful corys. Here's a link to show you the possibilities:

Some are harder to find than others, though. The bronze cory, C. aeneus, is the most common and popular. IMHO the C. sterbai is one of the most beautiful.

The corys will love the sand bottom. Please be sure to provide some kind of cave so that they can have some shade. You can arrange this in a way that they are visible, yet sheltered.

i think that is an unnecessary comment. missy has already shown that she cares about fish. you could quite easily of put that you dislike these fish, rather than insult those who have/like them (i do not have them, nor do i particularly like them, but i don't feel the need to put a nasty comment) :sly:

rsz, sorry for speeking my mind  but no offense was intended. Missy clearly stated that she had no problem with hybrid fish, which, as you can see, I have no problem with, even if I wouldn't keep one myself. I was merely correcting her about the difference between hybrids and artificial fish - and yes, I tend to get alittle blunt with the issue because I'd really like to see people stop supporting such practices.

I apologize if I offend anyone, but I do not retract my comment.

iv got two peppered ones (forgive spellin done 3 12 hr shifts in a row an im washed out)

they a lovley color greeinish blueish patches.... realy cute :)

Aherm
Am i the only one who thinks that the parrots will fight with the angels, and might even eat the corys?

i've got nothing against speaking your mind, all i was trying to state was that it was a bit of a harsh way to put it, because missy does care for her fish. i realise you'd like to see the practises of artificial fish stopped - so would i... :/

People, people, no need to argue. I completely agree about staying away from the artificial and/or dyed fish and would like more information on which of the parrot cichlids are not dyed. I know the the Blood parrot cichlid is not dyed however, I read that teh purple parrot cichlid is not but later read that it may be. Any definitive info would be helpful.

Also, any literature that I have found states that parrot cichlids are quite docile unless in a species only tank and suitable tankmates would include slower moving fish, specifically the Angelfish. Corys were also specifically listed everywhere that I could find information about them as suitable tankmates. Because of their smaller than usual mouth, even if their for some reason attempted to, they could never eat a cory nor an angelfish.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I love chatting with you all. :)
