Greetings. After over 5 years of waiting, my albino C. sterbai have had a large spawn, probably 150+ eggs and I would guess that half of them look viable. They were placed on the bottom, the sides, in the java moss, on the filter outlet tube and on the actual sponge filter itself. I'm surprised they didn't place some on each other. I have split the eggs into groups and placed them in 4 different tanks that contain wigglers. I have thought for a long time that I would move the group out - but they are just way too beautiful to part with. I am just so pleased, I can't tell you. - Frank

That's great, Frank!

Are you sure they didn't stick them on each other? That made my morning, :fun: and I got a nice chuckle.

Are you sure those fish aren't stuffed that you pose for your pics? Or are they just well trained. "Here, fishy, pose for me, and you can have this nice fresh blood worm!"

Amazing shot frank, they are simply beautiful. Congratulations on your success, hopefully your fry make it to adulthood.

First, congratulation for the new spawn.

And second, you mentioned you waited for 5 years. That made me curious what trigger the spawn. Do you have any idea? Or it just happened.

I have been want to get the group of Albino Sterbais since I start getting eggs from the regular Sterbais. Although I have not be able to come up the money to order. Maybe after I grow some regular Sterbais and sell it in a few month. I may have some money for the Albino. But 5 years would be a long wait.

So do you think breeding Albino Sterbai is much tougher than regular?

Danke.

Totally spontaneous. Just doing my normal tank maintenance routine. I rarely change a thing.

Time flies, when you are having fun and I'm having more fun than at any time since I was a hippie. :hyper:

Uh, 5 years - I'd say so. - Frank

:hyper: Congrats Frank :good:

That is brilliant news. Can't believe it's taken 5 years though! I've had my normal Sterbai for over a year, no signs of spawning there and I got some Albino Sterbai too in hope I could breed them. So it looks like it's going to take a while then. Luckily I have a bit of patience then ;)

Good luck and keep us updated.

:D

I gave my sterbai some aeneus companions. That got them started and it is nearly a daily dance now. I have not perfected the eggs garthering yet though. And of course they aren't albino.

Hi. You can never compare one breeder's success rate to your own. There are just too many variables involved. I know people who spawn them on a regular basis, even the albinos. I can spawn fish other people have trouble with and vice versa. If we knew why this was, we'd all be able to successfully spawn anything we'd like. - Frank

Sorry to hijack this thread, but my albino cory have started spawning. I've had them for about 4 month, but unfortunately I've ended up with 4 male and 1 female.

To the point.

I separated 3 of the males as they were all chasing the female. Within a few minutes she has started spawning, only a dozen or so eggs up to now.

My question..... the male started eating the eggs from the glass, is this normal? He seemed to eat about half of them, and up until now has left the rest alone.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Phil
