Final List...tell Me What You Think, Please.

Personally, I wouldn't put a redtail black shark in a tank less than 55g. They are just too aggressive, and in a 30g that aggression will be heightened. They really hate Tiger Barbs, ime, also. Mine always chased them relentlessly.

Others may have a different opinion so maybe wait and see what they say too. :)

What color were your tiger barbs? The reason I ask is bc the lfs guy told me that the rtbs tends to chase other fish that look like them, including the green tiger barbs. I guess they look close enough like another rtbs to cause the aggression, being dark green, almost black, and having reddish fins.

ETA: the filter I have is for a 50-70 gallon tank. And I plan on having a bubble curtain, just because I like them! ^_^

I would drop the krib/s because I think there's already enough aggression in the tank. Let me see some pics once you get all the fish in there, that's what I plan on doing when I stop with my community fish.

I had both, the green and the orange and black striped. I think it was because they were nippy and too outgoing for the rtbs', maybe? Maybe the rtbs' thought they'd get the Tiger Barbs before they could get them? I had Serpae's also and they didn't bother them as much but still chased a bit. They always chased my Zebra Danios a lot too tho. Well, pretty much anything I ever had with them, I guess.

Even though I've had a lot of them it's still just one person's experience, though. I could have been doing something wrong and not knowing it. I only really know about piranha's and a few large cichlids so it may have very well been just me. There are many people here that are much better and more informed with community fish. :)

Well I appreciate your input... every aspect helps. I think I've learned one thing while on this forum and keeping fish - there are no rules, just experiences. Everyone's experience will be different, but in sharing them we can learn more.

ETA: How many RTBS did you have together? I wonder bc I've read that unless the tank is very large they should be kept alone. Maybe that had something to do with your problems with them? I'm just trying to figure out what the problem was on your end so maybe I won't have the same.

I clean out a 4ft tank for a company my nan works for and they have a shoal of tiger barbs and a small rtbs and he bullies them rotten, he gets quite nasty sometimes i feel like faking his death and sending him to the LFS to give the poor things a rest.

And they get more territorial with age, from my expierence i'd reccomend you stay away from them, especially in that size ;)

I personaly think you should skip the RTBS and get the rest - minus one krib. With just one, you won't have any aggression. They are not overly territorial and won't be aggressive - they become aggressive when breeding. 2 females would be a problem because you have that same dominant-chases-other thing you see with gouramies.

You are right RTBSs tend to attack similar looking fish (and absolutely hate others of their kind - even in large tanks they chase each other. Some people keep larger groups to spread out the aggression and that can work.) Unfortunately, they don't base their decision on color :p They seem to look at shape more. For example, they dislike other sharks such as flying foxes and torpedo barbs. Barbs and sharks are closely related so you can expect an RTBS to go after barbs as well.

Having said that, I kept an RTBS with 7 tiger barbs for a few years in a 30 gallon and, dispite the occasional chasing that is inevitable with a shark, I didn't have any serious aggression. Still, I hear lots of people saying this isn't the case so I think I may just have been lucky with my RTBS. The main worry is that, with tigers being quite boisterous little fish, they'll actually provoke an attack by 'annoying' the shark. You may want to try it anyway though - like I said, it worked fine for me. But then skipping the kribs is a good idea as they'll be competing with the shark for space.

I only ever had 1 in a tank at a time. A couple of times it was in a 29g but mainly it was in 55g tanks.

I think as long as you get at least 10 tiger barbs you will be okay, because then the tiger barbs would be more interested in themself than the other fish. Also, it is probably better to add ALL od the fish at once, so there aren't any problems with territories or anything.

I wouldn't add any danios. They'll detract from the other fish, and they'll definitely annoy the RTS because they're so hyper.
