is fin rot contagious? i had a guppy that had it and he died, i dont want any of my fish getting it so i need to know weather or not to treat my tank?

I'm sorry i just noticed your post, but getting aggreviated doesn't make anyone come a running either. If you can't get an answer here, try using the live chat or go to Tropical Chit Chat to ask it.
Finrot is contagious but it only effects those with weakened immune systems. I've had guppies get finrot with lots of other guppies not getting it. Usually when one guppy has it, i treat(with a product caled Melafix) the whole tank anyways so it probably prevents further infection. Also keeping water conditions clean and stable(no ammonia or nitrite) will further prevent it from spreading. Usually a fish catches it b/c it's stressed/weak and then it's susceptible to the disease. A healthy fish will not recieve it IMO.

thanx a bunch snowy for getting back to me, i jus got a lil mad because i know i asked this question like 5 times on other posts and no one helped me (which i think is unfair considering how often i help u guys) so sry fro the temper :D

well it first looked like as if the fins were being niped away by other fish, then after it got worse a thin line of white appeared where the fns were damaged and it just ate away at the fins until there was nothing left and my fishie died. iv seen what was on that one fish of urs that u tok back and theres no way that is fin rot, my guess is that it was a fungus.

it might be but it might just be getting nibbled on.....my mollies got nibbled untill her fins were gone :byebye: ......BY A DANIO!

No problem with the help and I hope he/she recovers. It's a very treatable disease. Finrot can happen with a injury(like a bite) if it gets infected, just FYI.

this also looked like it was being nibbled at my the other female i had with her and then it started to get smaller and smaller and when I got back to wal marts with the fish it was all the way gone the guy at wal marts looked at it and said where is its fin. so I dont know ...

the two new fish are great they have thier own little things they do...they are so hyper that they have almost jumped out of my 3 g tank...i've had them 3 days now and they haven't got anything yet i'm doing everyday water change and they don't like that to much lol but they like when the new water gets put in... how long before I can/ should put them in my main tank...

Guppy how are your babies doing ???

all of mine are doing great Even the two new little ones they were born last time at 4 am.... we had a long day yesterday (had family over) and I was up till 5 am went to take a shower and came back in my room and looked at my fish and I strarted laughing cause I seen this little baby hanging out of her I thought for sure he was a died one I waited 15 min. and still didn't come out his little tummy has a red line going down the middle of it and found out his head and fin wouldn't come out so I got my net in there lol well my female took off out came the baby I cought him and put him with the rest of the babies and just waited 5 more came but I could only save two I can't find the other two that are still in the mommys side of tank... shes having a really bad time with these ones I don't know if she can push them out shes so fat she can't even swim right...
