We get so many posts from people who have just set up a brand new tank and picked out fish they liked the looks of. They were told by the shop that the fish would be fine together. They get home, set up the tank, put the fish in and then the problems start so they post on here. Problems such fish dying because of the ammonia in the tank as no-one told them about the nitrogen cycle; problems because of incompatible fish which the shop said would be OK together; problems because the fish are sick brought on by poor water conditions and so on.
Unless we are told that the fish keeper is experienced and the problem is in a quarantine tank, we have to assume they are totally new beginners and the problem is in their main tank.
