Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

Yesterday:
before water change he sat on the bottom very lathargic, looking sorry for himself. so I took out 90% of water, cleaned the filter, swilled the stones. i then replaced this with clean water, added interpet tapsafe, added 4 new elodia plants and also a single dose of waterlife protozin. i thought that the fin loss was due to having white spot. he is covered in little white spots.

Today:
came home at 5 and went toward the tank to feed, he swam up to the surface but then swam down as i opened the lid. I waited for him to come back up then fed him 3 hikari micro wafer pellets. he ate all 3 easily and is swimming around more but not as much as usual. I have also noticed that where the fin is damaged he has got very fine white fur like stuff

Volume and Frequency of water changes:

I'll be honest (as it is probably 99% my fault) I try to change water every fortnight, but the past month have only managed once due to being away. Usually i do a 50% fornightly and a 75% every 2 months

Tank inhabitants:

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):

Oh dear, he does look in a bad way.
Looks like he definitely has Ich & probably fin rot too
Ask on the Betta forum as they'll be able to help you on what meds to try

bump

exact same thing happening to one of my corys at the mo. Perfect water parameters!

Those parameters were taken today i have no idea what they were previously. I will check again tomorrow.

Can I treat both at the same time?

I just remembered something, sometimes fin rot can come as a secondary infection if the fish is already sick, so if you treat the ich then the fin rot will either lessen or dissapear. but i also just read that no you cant mix the meds, i would treat the ich first and then the fin rot straight after, also do a water change

I had a problem with my tetras who had ich, and I turned up the heat which sped up their fin rot, within days they were mostly finless. I would have treated the ich first, but DON'T turn up the heat. Just keep the water as clean as possible.

OK I was asleep when you just posted that, I'll have to try get my brother to turn the heat back down to 26

Witht the Protozin medication it says give it days 1,2,3 and 6 is this right or should i medicate until he is better?

Hopefully it will work for you on the first round, but if not, there's no choice really but to keep trying.

UPDATE: today is the off day so tomorrow is the last treatment and he is swimming around like he used to and majority of white spots have cleared up.

should i go buy some carbon and fin rot treatment tomorrow, then start fin rot straight away?

OK update:

white spot was gone 8 days ago, did a massive water change, added carbon to filter. Then did another massive water change and removed the carbon. Left it a few hours then added the fin rot medicine.

and im sure 'fingers crossed' that the fin looks like its getting bigger. will take photos tonight
