Going to attempt this again. Got six longfin black skirt tetras a few months ago. One died within a month for no apparent reason, except they were in my husband's 20g tank that he didn't take care of very well. I put them in my 55g several days ago.

The smallest of the bunch has had white spots on its fins since we got it. All the fish had a mild case of fin rot when we first got them, but I treated them all and it disappeared. Any idea what this is?

Thanks for the help ... and sorry about the less than stellar photos. I did try to crop them, but Photobucket doesn't like that tonight.

Anyone? I see now that the photos did crop after all. Can you see the spots? If it was white spot/ich wouldn't it spread to the body and get worse?

I'd say fin rot, just because its only on the tail but it could be something else.

I'd rule out ich though.

ive always gone to my lfs and whenever i see longfin black skirts they're tail is always ripped. has it always been like this? if not id assume its either bullying or fin rot

Thank goodness for that. It seems odd that it's had it for such a long time. Anyone think it will get better after they've been in the 55g for a while with regular water changes?

it could be a nasty combination of bullying and genetics. they could be like veiltail angels, because the angels' tails are ripped, but they're not at all stressed, but it will heal a little somehow.

but those white spots are a little mysterious

They are mysterious, especially since they're only on one out of five fish! There doesn't seem to be any bullying going on and since they've been in the 55g they seem a lot happier. But I'm still concerned. Maybe the wait and see method should apply here?
