My steel blue veiltail male, Quicksilver, currently has both fin rot and a fungus infection. When I came home from my vacation, the fin rot had developed, and his tail was in shreds. I cleaned the tank (he's in a 2.5gal) and added Fungus Clear and aquarium salt. That was about a week ago, and, thankfully, I'm happy to say the fin rot is definitely on the mend. His tail is growin back, and is probably about half way back to it's normal length. :good:

However, I also suspect that he has a fungus infection. When I got him (a month or so ago?), he had a small blue grey spot on his face between his eye and his mouth. Since he's blue, I thought little of it. However, it hasn't gone away, and it's gotten bigger. It isn't stringy or anything, and hardly looks cottony, but I think it is. It sticks up off of his face, and almost looks "hard" like a barnacle or something, but I'm sure my eyes are playing a trick on me. I found one picture on line of fungus that it looks similar too, so I think that's what it is. Anyways, another, smaller spot of the same spot is on the other side of his face now. At first I thought it was a piece of debri from the blue rocks in his tank, but it hasn't changed or gone away. I don't think it's columnaris because there are only two spots on his face. He's active, eating plenty, and being his friendly old self.

So, if it is a fungus infection, as I suspect, what advice to you guys have for me? I have some Jungle Fungus Clear, but when I added it for the fin rot, it didn't do anything for the spot. I also have some Maracyn, and some Tetracyclin tablets. What works best for you guys? Later today when I clean his tank I'm going to put in some more salt and some medicine - but the question is, which medicine to use? I'm going to Walmart today, and a pet store is right next to it, so if you guys have any other good medications or tips, I could pick stuff up there.

Is fungus easy enough to treat/cure? Any advice is appreciated. I'm going to try to get a picture later on. Thanks again!

Okay this is a little update to see if anyone can help me with this new info. Today I cleaned Silver's tank and added some salt and Maracyn, figuring that if it didn't help the fungus, it would at least help the fin rot. So anyways, when he was in his temporary home while I cleaned the tank, I took a flashlight to him to see if I could see the fungus any better. However...it was gone! His head was just it's normal black colour. So, I put him back in the tank and watched him for a little while with the flashlight, and since he was going kind of slow after the shock of being put back in his clean tank, I could see pretty well. As I was watching, it was almost like I could see the fungus "growing back" onto his face. It's really weird. So now I'm wondering if it's fungus at all. Sometimes Woo, my CT male, changes colours even though he's not a marble. He's black, and turns a peachy colour when I clean his tank, so now I'm thinking...maybe Quicksilver gets darker when I clean the tank, and the stuff I thought was fungus is just a few patches of lighter blue coloring? The fungus doesn't stick up a whole lot, only where his nostril is, so I just don't know.

Does anyone have any advice? If it is fungus, I want to help Silver, and if it isn't, I want to put my mind to rest! Thanks.

If this was me id do an underdose of methylene blue. But many people would have different ideas :) and regards to your CT changing colour it's probably him getting stressed when he is moved from tank to cleaning accomodation :)
