Filtration

at one point in time i was gonna buy a bio wheel, i thought it would be the ultimate solution but the very very knowledgable guy at my independantly owned lfs said that its over rated. an aquaclear is around the same price but works much better. much better of a filter in general. if you are going to get the biowheel, remember the dirtier and more gross it looks, the better it is. some people change the biowheel so frequently it does absolutly no good. when it looks all dirty and gross is when its got the most beneficial bacteria on it. So i have heard anyway, correct me if im wrong. aqualcear filter has a foam insert and then you have a few choices as to what other media you put in there. i put in the foam a charcoal sack adn a biological something or other for bacteria growth, and it rules, i hvent had death in years. and i only clean the gravel like once ever few months, however i am about to instal an additional filter in the form of an undergravel one to promote bacteria growth and oxygenate the water. good luck friend

ya i have read that to about biowheels..my gf actually just got a 2 gallon tank wtih a little biowheel in it and it says in the instructions exactly what you said..the dirtier it is the better it is lol

My bio-wheels wheel quit spinning! I called marineland and the said that the pump must be faulty and that they would send me a new filter but it will take to long. I am thinking about a different brand that is a cheap mini wet/dry filter. anyone know of a good one?

i have a an aquaclear filter running and not to be favourites but for a fact, aquaclears turn more water over than biowheels of the same size...You can also fit more media in there and for some, a lot more quieter...

im my 20 gallon tank i had an aqua clear mini for 10-20g aquariums, it is a very quiet running filter. like mentioned above stores many different media types lots of space for them. simple no fancy parts to break down. reliable, been using it for like five yeras and its still goin strong. recently in the last month i bought the next size up for 20-30g aquariums and its great. if you can get aquaclear filters id extremely reccomend them.

tetratec ex1200 is a very good external filter and not over priced as you get all the filter media plus spray bar :hyper:
