Filtration for 4 gallon tank with sand

What filter should I get for a 4 gallon tank with sand as the substrate?

Thanks. :) Unfortunately, I tried doing that :( My betta was still being blown around the aquarium, and after a couple minutes he curled into a ball on the gravel :crazy:

I turned the filter off overnight since I still have the UG filter running.

What do you think about cutting the intake tube, so the strainer is pretty much right under the surface of the water?

Even with the filter on the lowest setting? Just to double check, you pulled the intake tube up out of the top of the filter housing, right?

I don't think it would hurt, I also don't think it would help with the output of the filter. Also you would have to make sure the strainer stayed submerged so that you wouldn't run the filter dry.

:*) Oops. I feel so foolish. The package said
If Intake Tube is not seated all the way down, flow will not start.
I removed the extension tube to lessen the output, although it did not make much of a difference.

I've lifted the intake tube just enough to slow the flow down, but the filter is not running dry. So, everything is good! Now I just need to cut a hole in my hood so it will fit over the filter.
