The 4 gallon tank has 2 corys and a betta. I'm about to switch the gravel to sand, so I'll need to get rid of the UG filter and get a new one. My biggest concern is which filter is best with sand (if that makes a difference). So, which one should I get? Any comments welcome :)

I'd like to get the nano filter, but it says it is only good up to 3 gallons, and since the tank is slightly overstocked I think I'll need more filtration.

I know, but this is the only place around that sells the filters I want.

So, right now the nano filter is winning with 2 votes. Are you sure this won't be underfiltering the tank?

your right it may underfilter the tank, but the price difference is alot try shopping around more see if you can get a better price on the other filters, i'm sure you could do it though even if it is only suggested for a three gallon tank just extra water changes, or just add a small cheap sponge filter i've seen little ones for about $4 and you still save money over the others

That's true  I've looked at the two fish stores near me, and one site that ships to Canada, and this is the cheapest price I've come across :dunno:

Do sponge filters actually do much filtration?

You can order the Red Sea filter for $5.99

And here's what it looks like on my 2.5 gallon tank:

pretty much just biological filtration which it does very well it should help maintain a safe level with your nitrites it cheap to add your afraid the powerfilter isn't enough

EDIT- you have to add price of airpump to that though i forgot maybe you won't come out ahead

Thanks for the links, guys. I checked out the Azoo Palm Filter from the link and found out it's cheaper to get it in Canada for $13, because I won't need to pay for shipping & handling.

I forgot about the need for an air pump too, vantgE. Maybe I should just get a bigger/ better filter. That way I can always move it to a different tank instead of having to buy a new one.

I think I've decided to go for the Marineland Penguin Mini Power Filter (No Biowheel) for $20, just because it's the cheapest filter, aside from the palm filter.

Thanks again for the help. :)

Alright, the Penguin Mini has arrived and is set up in the tank. The only problem is, it's creating a HUGE amount of water movement. Not just at the surface, but throughout the tank. My betta is not liking it

The box said that the 100 GPH filter is fully adjustable, which I took to mean the flow rate was adjustable. But I can't find anywhere to adjust it :dunno:

Do any of you have a Penguin Mini? If so, do you know if the flow rate is adjustable? If not, do you know if there's anything I can do to create less water movement?

You should be able to pull up the intake tube an inch or two - the higher it is, the lower the flow.

HTH!
