Hi everyone, just looking for some advice really. I currently have a fluval 306 on my 190 litre tank. I’m looking change as it seems to of had its day and the performance is not the same as when I first got it.

Just want some opinions on what to go for next. I struggled a lot with the priming of the 306 as the little priming handle was so small and just seemed an absolute nightmare. I was looking to potentially go for a fluval 307, the primming handle seems to have improved. My other option was upgrading more and going for the FX4.

Would love to hear all advice and what you think it’s much appreciated. Of course if there are other filters or better ones in your opinion I’m all ears.

Thanks I’m advance 😊

I have an FX4 with a tank that is 283 liters. I love it. It's easy to assemble, runs quiet and has a hose attachment that allows you to change water and fill up the tank from the filter. Water changes are easy.

I'm sure there are some less expensive options that will do just fine for 190 liters, but you can't go wrong with the FX4 and in my opinon, you can't have too much filter.

If you get one, I'd suggest adding some fine sponge or something like these pads cut up to go around the outside of the sponges that come with it, and I would replace the ceramic media they give you with K1 bio media.

Thank you so much for your reply, just wondered why you suggest replacing the outside sponges with that media?

I’ve just seen the FX2 thinking that might be my best option just because it’s smaller to fit underneath in my cabinet. Hopefully it’s just like the other FX models 🤞

Not replacing, just augmenting. Add the pad around the outside of the sponge. It will catch finer particles
