Just want to know if I have to many filters on my 55 gallon tank. Have a fluval 307, penguin 350, PF 75, and a sponge. I know the fluval will do by itself, but I just love the clear water, want to know if its to much for my peacock cichlids. Thanks

i dont think you could have TOO much but if they dont like flow turn it down

Whats the total lph/gph between all of them? Have you overstocked the peacocks? If so more filters is better, could be good to run some chemical filtration to help keep nitrates low between water changes too.

I would get rid of the PF 75 and the sponge.

If you’re wanting water movement, look into some powerheads.

Um, no they aren’t. You can find some pretty cheap powerheads on Amazon for $16 each.

Obviously if you wanted magnetic and adjustable ones, they will run you $60+

For freshwater tanks, you don’t need anything fancy.

For saltwater tanks on the other hand, you need to get one that is adjustable and has some sort of current setting.

Extra filtration does not constitute an excuse for your tank to be overstocked.

I’d go for a well known brand like seachem they have a powder you add to your filter and prime also detoxifies it too

Extra filtration does not constitute an excuse for your tank to be overstocked.

With peacocks it’s best to overstock them to spread aggression and help replicated their natural conditions when you watch wild Malawi videos they live in much tighter quarters than say American cichlids. So taking on additional filtration really helps in this situation but obviously that will only deal with so much which is why I said about adding chemical filtration too.
