Im thinking of changing my filter on my juwel tank from the standard internal box to an external canister. The tank in a 125l tank.

I was looking at the:

AquaEl External uni Max 250
Or
Eheim 2322

Can any one share with me their experiences of them filters please? I am at this point in time persuaded to buy the AquaEI as it is cheaper that the Eheim and includes the filter media.

I am really looking for comments on the build quality between the two units. I don’t want to scrimp on £20/30 of equipment now and get the AquaEl only to have to start replacing malfunctioning power heads etc a few months later.

Go with the eheim, better quality. More expensive but is overall better. I personally haven't had one but everybody I know says they are better, and their other products are better also.

Tetratec EX or eheim IMHO. I now have two tetratecs and so far can't fault them, have 3yr guarentee also. Had a eheim for years until recently, and until I broke the handle last week had no trouble with it.

Thanks for the input.

I think I will fork out the extra £20 for the extra reliability of the Eheim filter.

Everyone says that Eheim are the best. I have personally never used them. I have 2 fluval 305s on my 75 gallon and they have been perfect for the 2 years I've had them running. They are also a snap to clean/maintain. That is probably the one down side I have read on the Eheim, that they were difficult to clean.

I have the eheim one and am amazed at how quiet it is! very simple to use and good quality!

Fluvals are too. If it weren't for seeing the plants swaying in the current, you'd never know they were running. I'll never buy another HOB again unless it's a really strange situation.

I abuse the snot out of Eheim canisters in my breeding setup. They hold up without any problem.
